ADOPTED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OF THE VILLAGE OF PLAINFIELD

AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE POSITION OF DEPUTY CHIEF
WHEREAS, Public Act 91-615 provides that anon-home rule municipality of 130,000 or
fewer inhabitants may by ordinance provide for a position of Deputy Chief to be appointed by the
Chief of the Police Department; and
WHEREAS, any such ordinance shall provide for no more than one (1) Deputy Chief
position if the police department has fewer than twenty-five (25) full-time police officers, and for
no more than two (2) Deputy Chief positions if said department has twenty-five (25) or more full-
time police officers; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE
VILLAGE OF PLAINFIELD, AS FOLLOWS:
That there is hereby established the positions of two (2) Deputy Chiefs in the
Village of Plainfield.
II. The Deputy Chief position shall be an exempt rank immediately below that of
Chief.
III. The Deputy Chief may be appointed from any rank of sworn, full-time officers of
the Village's Police Department, but must have at least five (5) years of full-time
service as a police officer in said Department.
IV. A Deputy chief shall serve at the discretion of the Chief and, if removed from the
position, shall revert to the rank held immediately prior to appointment to the
Deputy Chief position.
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval, and
publication as required by law.

AYES: Collins, O'Connell, Swalwell, and Thomson.
NAYS: 0
ABSENT: Calabrese, Cherry.
