IDLLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD
May 24, 2001
7:00 PM, Town Barn
The Hillsborough Town Board held a Budget Work Session on May 21,2001 at 7:00 PM in the
Hillsborough Town Barn. Present for the Budget Work Session were Mayor Horace H.
Johnson, Sr., and Commissioners Frances Dancy, Evelyn Lloyd, Mark Sheridan, Kenneth
Chavious, and Brian Lowen. Present were Town Manager Eric Peterson, Finance Director
Sherry Carter, Planning Director Margaret Hauth, Town Engineer Kenny Keel, and Public
Works Director/Assistant Town Manager Demetric Potts.
Mayor Horace H. Johnson, Sr., called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.
Mayor Johnson opened the Public Hearing to receive citizen comments on the Budget.
Richard Simpson addressed the Board and expressed his concerns with the proposed water/sewer
rate increases and the affect it will have on our senior citizens and people on fixed incomes.
Alois Calleymn appeared before the Board and presented the Fire Department budget requests
and fielded questions from the Board.
By consensus, the Board agreed to hold the May 29th Budget Work Session at 7:00 PM.
Town Manager Eric Peterson reviewed the proposed budget for the Water/Sewer Fund.
Commissioner Lloyd asked to be excused from the rest of the meeting in order to be with her
father who is ill. By consensus, the Board agreed. Commissioner Lloyd left the meeting at 8:08
PM.
Manager Peterson fielded questions from the Board.
By consensus, the Board directed the Town Manager to analyze the proposed General Fund
Budget and bring back to them for their consideration a recommended $120,000 cut.
Upon a motion by Commissioner Lowen, seconded by Commissioner Sheridan, the Board
moved to recess the meeting until May 29th at 7:00 PM by a vote of 4-0. The motion was
declared passed.
