HomeMy Public PortalAbout140_012_Resolution 11\1/4, '47E1-0 0470-0' CITY OF TYBEE ISLAND A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE TYBEE ISLAND YOUTH COUNCIL WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Tybee Island have established a goal of improving programs and services for, and the involvement of, youth in the community; and WHEREAS, to encourage and facilitate the involvement of youth in the community and as a means to obtain the input of youth concerning youth programs and services, the Mayor and City Council desires to establish the Tybee Island Youth Council as provided for herein below; and WHEREAS, a Director for the Tybee Island Youth Council needs to be appointed; and NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Jason Buelterman and the members of the Tybee Island City Council establish The Tybee Island Youth Council and appoint Janet LeViner as the Director in accordance with the following terms and provisions: 1. Tybee Island Youth Council—Mission The mission of the Tybee Island Youth Council is to promote and receive input from the youth in the community to develop and sustain programs and activities for the youth and to provide a vehicle to learn about government, participate in the process and to represent the needs of the youth in this community. 2. The Tybee Island Youth Council is hereby established. The youth council is a leadership development program in which youth in grades 4 and 5 that are currently enrolled in Tybee Island Maritime Academy and/or residing on the Island are given an opportunity to advise, recommend, assist and encourage activities to be undertaken for and with the youth in the City. 3. Meetings Meetings shall be held once a month at Tybee Island City Hall or the Tybee Island Public Safety Building. The Director shall prepare meeting agendas and minutes of the youth council's meeting shall be maintained by the Secretary or an officer of the youth council. 4. Officers The officers of the Tybee Island Youth Council shall be appointed by the Advisory Committee for the year 2015. Thereafter they will be elected by the majority of the body. The term of office will be one year,beginning in January and ending in December. 5. Vision The Tybee Island Youth Council seeks to prepare youth for a lifetime of public and community service regardless of the youth's present or future career aspirations.
