HomeMy Public PortalAbout140_020_CPR Training - Revised 10 31 2014 Training Policy for CPR and AED All current and future employees of the City of Tybee Island will be trained in the proper performance of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to include Airway Obstruction, and the proper usage of the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). The purpose of the training will be to familiarize all city employees with both CPR and AED skills. The guidelines set by the American Heart Association are for renewed training every two years. To facilitate renewals and to provide training opportunities for new employees, the City will provide CPR Training annually for all employees to begin in 2014, and each year thereafter. While all employees shall be required to attend the training or seek training on their own, no employee, other than those employees who are required to render aid or care in emergency situations, or are otherwise required to obtain a certificate of completion pursuant to their job duties, will be required to obtain a certificate of completion. Rather, if eligible, those employees may opt out of receiving a certificate of completion. If received, copy of the CPR/AED certificate of completion will be placed in the employee personnel file. In lieu of the mandated training provided by the City, employees that desire to obtain this training on their own may provide a certificate of completion for their personnel file. For record keeping purposes, the Human Resources Manager shall keep an attendance record of all employees attending training including those employees not wanting the certificate of completion. This policy is for training purposes only and the required training is intended to familiarize city employees with CPR and AED skills. The City of Tybee Island has no policy related to the use of said training in the context of an emergency for employees who are not required to render aid or care in emergency situations. Each employee, other than those employees who are required to render aid or care in emergency situations, has the right to act at his or her own discretion in deciding to render aid or care, or not, during an emergency. This training shall in no way place an employee, other than those employees who are required to render aid or care in emergency situations, to render aid or care in emergency situations, either while performing duties for the City of Tybee Island or otherwise.
