THE COMPLETION OF THE TYBEE POST THEATER WILL PROVIDE A VENUE TO EXPAND AND SHOWCASE THEATER PRODUCTIONS, WHICH WILL ENHANCE AWARENESS OF THE ARTS AND CULTURE ON THE ISLAND. Provide a brief description of the project and proposed use of funds: Completion of this phase for the Tybee Post Theater is estimated to cost a total of$1,450,000. A million dollars has been invested to date with acquisition and partial restoration. The requested monies will be used for HVAC,insulation,mechanical and electrical upgrades,seat installation, platform stage,office space,box office, and marquee,and plaza. 2. Briefly describe how the project relates to your comprehensive downtown revitalization Strategy. The completion of the Tybee Post Theater will provide a venue to expand and showcase theater productions,which will enhance awareness of the arts and culture on the island. The theater will also be a draw for small conventions. The productions and convention opportunities will have an economic impact within Tybee Island's downtown area,as well as other commercial districts,while providing jobs year-round. 3. Describe the specific downtown problems/needs that this project will address. Tybee Post Theater has been vacant for over two decades. Over the years,this historic structure has been threatened to be demolished,changed ownership and is now in the hands of a dedicated owner and non-profit organization to see that it is properly renovated. This renovation will open the doors of the community's historic theater to provide a public cultural arts center,meeting space and jobs. T 4. Describe the proposed activities to be undertaken that will meet these needs. The renovations that have taken place and will take place with funding will provide jobs,spur economic development for the city, provide additional awareness of the arts with public performances,and provide meeting space to accommodate small conventions.
