RESOLUTION NO. 2-2021
A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING A PUBLIC
WAY ALIAS AS "GOEBEL WAY"
WHEREAS, On March 1, 2021, with support from the Mayor, the Common Council of
the City of Richmond, Indiana, (the "Common Council") recognized local
citizens Joseph G. and Barbara J. Goebel, to pay tribute to the Goebels as
contributors to the community of the City of Richmond, Indiana, and its
Veterans Park located at 200 Johnson Street; and
WHEREAS, The City has been approached by the Veterans Committee to assist the City
in renaming the roadway currently designated as "Johnson Street" in order
that the public way may instead be designated as "Goebel Way"; and
WHEREAS, The United States Postmaster for the Richmond Post Office Branch had
previously informed the City of Richmond that the formal names of public
ways can be assigned"alias names"; and
WHEREAS, In accordance with Indiana Code 36-9-6-2 and Richmond City Code
Chapter 70.35, the City of Richmond Board of Public Works and Safety
(the "Board of Works") is authorized to place and maintain traffic-control
signs to guide traffic; and
WHEREAS, Upon passage of this Resolution, the public way currently designated as
Johnson Street will instead be designated with the honorary name of
"Goebel Way" and signage will be designated to notify traffic of the public
way designated as "Goebel Way"; and
WHEREAS, It is in the best interest of the City of Richmond, Indiana, that the Board of
Works designate the public way that is currently designated as Johnson
Street will instead be designated as "Goebel Way" to pay tribute to Joseph
G. and Barbara J. Goebel as contributors to the community of the City of
Richmond, Indiana and the Veterans Park.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Public Works and Safety
and by the Mayor of the City of Richmond, Indiana, that the designation of the public way

currently known as Johnson Street will instead be designated with the honorary name of
"Goebel Way" as follows:
"GOEBEL WAY North from the Intersection of East Main and North 2nd
Streets to the first street running to the west off North 2nd Street (dead ends).

REMEMBERING VETERANS DRIVE North from the intersection of North
2nd and East Main Streets to Goebel Way; then west to the drive leading into
Veterans Memorial Park."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ALSO RESOLVED by the Board of Public Works and
Safety and by the Mayor of the City of Richmond, Indiana, that after approval of this
Resolution, the Mayor will notify the Street Department to cause signage to be designated to
notify traffic of the public way designated with the honorary name of"Goebel Way."
