COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT
WHEELCHAIR RAMP AND SIDEWALK INSTALLATIONS
PROJECT NO.: 09-90-12.12
GENERAL NOTES
1. ALL WORK SHALL BE DONE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE APWA—AGC STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC WORKS CONSTRUCTION, 2000 EDITION, AS AMENDED BY THE
2001 SUPPLEMENTS.
2. ATTENTION IS DIRECTED TO THE POSSIBLE EXISTENCE OF UNDERGROUND FACILITIES NOT KNOWN OR IN A LOCATION DIFFERENT FROM THAT WHICH IS SHOWN ON THE
PLANS OR IN THE SPECIAL PROVISIONS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ASCERTAIN THE EXACT LOCATION OF ALL UNDERGROUND FACILITIES PRIOR TO DOING WORK THAT MAY
DAMAGE SUCH FACILITIES OR INTERFERE WITH THEIR SERVICE.
AT LEAST 48 HOURS BEFORE COMMENCING WORK, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTACT UNDERGROUND ALERT (USA) 1-800-227-2600.
3. CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLY WITH ALL STATE, COUNTY AND CITY LAWS AND ORDINANCE AND REGULATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS, O.S.H.A. AND
INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT COMMISSION RELATING TO SAFETY AND CHARACTER OF WORK. EQUIPMENT AND LABOR PERSONNEL.
4. PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION, P.G.&E. AND CALIFORNIA WATER COMPANY WILL RELOCATE ANY OF THEIR UTILITIES IN CONFLICT WITH THIS PROJECT. IN THE EVENT THAT
UNFORESEEN CONFLICTS ARE DISCOVERED, IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO COORDINATE HIS ACTIVITIES WITH THE APPROPRIATE UTILITY COMPANY IF
ADDITIONAL RELOCATION IS NECESSARY.
5. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALL LIGHTS, SIGNS, BARRICADES, FLAGMEN, OR OTHER DEVICES NECESSARY TO PROVIDE FOR PUBLIC SAFETY AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH
THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, MANUAL OF TRAFFIC CONTROLS, 1996 EDITION.
6. PHASING AND ACCESS. CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN BOTH VEHICULAR AND PEDESTRIAN ACCESS THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT AT ALL TIMES UNLESS EXPRESSLY
AUTHORIZED BY THE CITY NOT TO DO SO. THE FOLLOWING ARE MORE SPECIFIC PROJECT REQUIREMENTS, ALLOWABLE AND RESTRICTIONS.
A. FIVE (5) DAYS BEFORE CONCRETE REPAIRS COMMENCE, AN INFORMATIONAL LETTER IN A FORMAT APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER SPECIFYING DATES OF
OPERATION SHALL BE HAND DELIVERED TO ALL RESIDENTS/BUSINESSES IN THE VICINITY OF CONSTRUCTION AREA.
B. CONTRACTOR WILL BE ALLOWED TO PROHIBIT VEHICULAR ACCESS TO INDIVIDUAL GARAGES WHEN CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES ARE ONGOING IN FRONT OF THE
PROPERTY. THESE CLOSURES WILL BE PERMITTED UNTIL THE CURB AND GUTTER HAVE BEEN REMOVED AND REPLACED.
C. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE TEMPORARY PEDESTRIAN ACCESS TO PROPERTIES DURING ALL CONSTRUCTION PHASES. CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT TO THE CITY
A DETAILED PLAN SHOWING HOW THIS WILL BE ACCOMPLISHED. NO WORK SHALL PROCEED UNTIL SAID PLANS HAVE BEEN APPROVED BY THE CITY.
D. CURB, GUTTER AND SIDEWALK REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT MUST BE KEPT ON ONE SIDE OF THE STREET, KEEPING THE OTHER SIDE FREE OF OBSTRUCTION
FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD'S SAFE USE UNLESS APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER.
7. ALL QUANTITIES ON THIS PLANSHEET ARE FOR ESTIMATION PURPOSES ONLY. ACTUAL MEASUREMENTS SHALL BE VERIFIED IN THE FIELD BY THE ENGINEER.
