All work shown on these plans shall be done in accordance w th the following: a) All work regarding water supply improvements shall be done in accordance with Estero Municipal Improvement District Resolution No. 763 Amending District Standard Specifications and Resolution No. 6900 dat d July 1972 unless directed otherwise by the District Engineer. b) All on -site improvements, other than water imp ovements shall be done in accordance with the Standard Specifications for Rubli Works Construction written by the American Public Works Association, 1982 E ition (hereinafter "Standard Specifications"). c) All work, regardless of type shall be done in accord ce with the standards of the United States Department of Labor, Oc upa ional Safety and Health Administration, Office of Standards and rules th State Division of Industrial Safety. Where conflicts exist between any of the above listed specjifications, the most stringent listed specifications shall prevail. 2. Work shall consist of all clearing, grubbing, and strippi g, preparation of land to be filled, excavation, spreading, compaction and control of the fill, and all subsidiary work necessary to complete the grading to conform to the lines, grades and slopes, as shown on the accepted plans and as specified in the Geotechnical Investigation Report. 2. The Contractor's attention is directed to the Geotechnical Investigation Reports entitled, 'Marin9r's Island No. 5 - Residential Po tion" dated February, 1983 and 'Edgewater Isle Unit II; dated July 20, 1984, prepared by Soil Foundation Systems, Inc., 733 Benton Street, Santa Clara, CA 95050. Copies f these reports are on file and can be reviewed in the office of Ruth and Going, Inc., 919 The Alameda, San Jose, California (408) 297-8273. 3. The Contractor Shall notify the Soil Engineer, K.C.' Sohn of Soil Foundation Systems, Inc., phone (408)1248-1150, at least 48 hours prior to commencement of any grading operations on site. 4. In the event that any unusual conditions not covered by these notes and the Geotechnical Investigation are encountered during grading operations the Soil Engineer shall be immediately notified for directions. 5. All existing trash, debris, roots, tree remains and other rubbish shall be removed from the site so as to leave the areas that have been disturbed with a neat and finished appearance free from unsightly debris. No burning shall be permitted. 6. It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor under the guidance of the Engineer to carry out necessary cuts and fills within the limits of this project so as to generate the desired subgrade surfaces and slopes. The intent of this plan is to aid the Contractor in arriving at such a final result. The upper 10 inches of the subgrade for pavement areas shall be compacted to a relative compaction of not less than 95%, as determined by the State of California test method No. 216. 8. Contractors shall grade to the line and elevations shown on the plan within the following horizontal and vertical tolerances, and to the following relative compactions, in the areas indicated: a. Roadway and parking area subgrade preparation (Upper 10 inches) b. Building pads and all engineered fil, c. Landscape fill (Upper 12 inches only) Relative Horizontal Vertical Compaction 0.05'+ 0.05'+ 0.5'+ 0.10'+ 1.0'+ , 0.20'+ 95% 90% 8596 9. All aggregate base • material and the handling and placement thereof shall be in accordance with the Standard Specifications. Aggregate base material shall be crushed aggregate base. 10. Asphalt concrete (AC) shall be Class CI Grade AR4000, as specified in the Standard Specifications. A 2" thickness may be placed in one lift. 11. SC -70 liquid asphalt conforming to the provisions of the Standard Specifications shall be applied at the rate of 0.15+ gallons per square yard to surface of aggregate base prior to placement of asphalt concrete. 12. A non -crystallizing type weed kill shall be spread over the aggregate base in accordance with manufactirer's recommendations. 13. Contractor shall adjust all inlets, valve boxes, manhole rims, and sewer cleanouts to new finish grade. Materials, handling and placement of Portland Cement Concrete shall be in accordance with applicable sections of the Standard Specifications and these plans and details shown hereon. 14. 15. Contours in open landscape areas are finished grade contours. Over excavation or under filling is required for placement of minimum of six inches of top soil suitable for maintaining plant growth. Top soil placement is the responsibility of the grading contractor. UNDERGROUND NOTES 1. Contractor shall expose and verify location and elevation of existing utilities, including sanitary and storm sewers, and water lines before constructing new facilities. 2. Sanitary sewer cleanouts shall be constructed where required by Uniform Plumbing Code (1979 Edition) and the City of San Mateo. Any additional cleanouts required by such code or City beyond those shown on this plan shall be constructed at no additional cost to Owner. 3. Building sewer laterals shall be constructed to a point 5 feet away from each building as shown on these plans. 4. Contractor shall place a 2" x 3" wood stake at ends of all storm, sanitary and water lines stubbed out for future connections by others. Stake shall be of sufficient length to extend from end of pipe to 18" above finish surface grade and shall be color coded. 5. Materials for pipe, storm water inlets and cleanouts and installation procedures shall be in accordance with applicable Uniform Building Code sections and the Standard Specifications, and these plans and details shown hereon. 6. Storm drain pipe designated "CP" may be concrete pipe, vitrified clay pipe, or asbestos cement pipe, appropriate for such use. 7. All trench excavation and backfill for storm drains and sanitary sewers shall conform to requirements of the Standard Specifications. 8. All trenches and excavations shall be constructed in strict compliance with the applicable sections of California and Federal Q.S.H.A. requirements and other applicable safety ordinances. Contractor shall bear full responsibility for trench shoring design and installation. 9. All domestic and irrigation water facilities shall be constructed in accordance with the Estero Municipal Improvement District Standards and Specifications and the National Fire Protection Association Pamphlet No. 24 "Installation of Private Fire Service Mains - 1981". Where conflicting, most stringent applies. 10. All fire hydrants shall be "Corona" style Model 550 containing one 4-1/2" and one 2-1/2" outlets with national standard hose threads as manufactured by Rich Valve Company and shall be painted with "Tropical-Rhinamel Yellow 11202-55-00" as manufactured by the Tropical Paint Division, Grow Chemical Co., PO Box 576, Santa Cruz, CA 95060 (423- 3387). 11. All removed pipe shall be disposed of away from the site. 12. Storm drainage pipes and catch basins (inlets) to be abandoned shall be abandoned in accordance with the Standard Specifications, and to the satisfaction of the soils engineer and the Director of Public Works at the City of San Mateo. Pipes or catch basins to be abandoned shall not be removed. Voids in abandoned pipes shall be filled with sand in such a manner that assures all voids are filled at completion of the filling operation. Contractor shall dewater pipes to be abandoned.prior to and during filling of the pipe voids. 13. Sanitary sewer cleanouts shall be installed per City of San Mateo Standard Drawing No. 3-1-102, except that PVC pipe shall be used in lieu of Cast Iron Pipe (CIP).
