AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE USE
OF PEOPLE PATHWAYS
WHEREAS, People Pathways is a multiuse, recreational trail through parts ofPutnam County
and Greencastle, Indiana. It is a recreational trail used for walking, jogging, bicycling, or cross
country skiing; and
WHEREAS, the City of Greencastle wishes to regulate and restrict the use of People
Pathways throughout City limits; and
WHEREAS, Putnam County, through its Board of Commissioners, has passed a similar
Ordinance.
NOW THEREFORE be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of Greencastle that:
1. Any motorized vehicles, horse riding, or hunting is specifically prohibited on People
Pathways. That signs showing the allowed uses and set prohibitions shall be posted at

2. Any person engaging in any use of any motorized vehicle, horse riding, or hunting
along said pathway is in violation of this Ordinance and commits criminal trespass for
doing so;
3. The Chief of the Greencastle City Police Department is directed to enforce this
Ordinance along said pathway;
4. All City owned vehicles used for maintenance and repair of the pathway and
emergency vehicles are exempt from the above Ordinance and are allowed on People
Pathways when necessary.
5. Any person violating this Section shall be fined Fifty Dollars ($50.00) for each
occurrence.
This Ordinance shall have full force and effect upon passage of the Greencastle Common
Council and its approval by the Mayor.
