Summer is on our doorstep but it's still an uncertain time to be stepping out and enjoying
friends and family like we did last year. We are all doing our best to operate in this new
world with the Coronavirus still affecting all of what we do. We need to remain vigilant in
our actions as we make our way outside and into public spaces so that we continue to
keep ourselves and others in good health. We understand how unsettling this is for eve-
ryone and we hope you know that the staff at the Senior Center is available to listen to
your concerns and to help you with questions you may have. We also know how anxious
you may be to get back to programs here at the Center, but we are not able to do so until
we have our phased plan and safety measures in place for the staff, the instructors and
for you. So in the meantime, we offer a menu of virtual programs via Zoom to keep you
engaged and connected. Please know that a landline phone is sufficient to engage at a
Council on Aging Board minimal effort to converse with the group, so don't feel you need a fancy computer or
Patricia Gold, Chairperson phone to participate. Call us and we'll be happy to get you involved in the programs.

1iE hfan,
The Senior Center remains closed until
further notice, but in May, we started
offering our most popular programs online
using the Zoom platform. Zoom is now
wid0y used for work and leisure -related
video conferencing all over the world. We
v,lil c ontinueto diversify the menu of classes, seminars, and presentations that we
will be offering while following social distancing policies and regulations. Our pro-
gram is still a "work in progress," and we could end up providing more activities than
listed in this Newsletter issue.
One of the challenges that we faced while trying to bring more people to Zoom
meetings was the difficulty in notifying our community members. We sent emails
and robocalls about upcoming activities. We asked seniors to inform their peers
and encourage them to join online programs. All that worked, and by the end of the
third week of May, we had seven weekly Zoom programs. We will continue having
Zoom programs for regular classes and to have guest speakers during the month of
June and probably July. Please call (617) 972-6490 or email Marina Kirsanova at
mkirsanova@watertown-ma.gov to join!

1. Sending notification emails and robocalls to participants who have registered in

2. Posting on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/
watertownmacouncilonaging/) a schedule of programs for every week; and
3. "Word-of-mouth" which so far, is the most powerful means of communication
— please continue encouraging people to join!
Please see the schedule of the June programs on the next page.
Call us at (617) 972-6490 to receive the Zoom registration information if you want to
join a program. Participation for now is free, but we are happy to receive donations.

rd to explain to straight people what it is like to be in a cultural setting that totally sup -
who you are as a Queer person (which is a generic name for LGBTQ). There is the pride
that comes with being "Out of the Closet": Rainbow flags galore, the chance to say, "This is my
wife," instead of "This is my 'friend."'
Many queer people vacation in Provincetown in the summer because you can feel pride about
being who you are. Queer people vary along all the lines that straight people do. But what we
have in common is a need to be affirmed and respected as we are.
I just loved this time of relaxing. Although we were aware of the coronavirus, there was one reported case in Lee
County, Florida. What was happening in Wuhan, China was getting our attention, but we knew it would spread and
were grateful that we got our vacation just in time.
I am so pleased that the leadership of the Watertown Senior Center has been listening to my request that we as a
community affirm our diversity by sharing more about the Queer experience within the Senior Center community.
Join us via Zoom on June 30 at i0.00 for a con versation about L GB TO and Pride month. Re`' G' Z76gwt
June BOZO Exhibition of Senior Center Art Class
Monday mornings are usually filled with colorful creation and lively chat between
friends, but the quarantine came along and stilled the brushes of the artists in the
Mondigy MorningArt Class. Dawn Evans Scaltreto, who has taught the class for over 25
years, was sad and missed her students but she also worried about them - their physi-
cal health and their emotional health during a time of crisis Marina Kirsanova and the
staff of the Watertown Senior Center came to the rescue!

grandchild is currently in jail or in trouble due to
some prior event. Usually the money request is in
the tens of thousands of dollars and THEY WILL
COME TO YOUR DOOR TO COLLECT. SCAM!
WHAT YOU CAN DO
