HomeMy Public PortalAboutRES-CC-2009-17RESOLUTION #17-2009 A RESOLUTION OF THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF MOAB ENDORSING THE "UTAH REDISTRICTING STANDARDS COMMISSION" INITIATIVE WHEREAS, the residents of Moab expect and deserve fair and equitable district boundaries determining representation at the Utah Legislature; and WHEREAS, the Moab City Council believes that Utah legislative district boundaries should be determined in a fair and equitable fashion following the 2010 U.S. Census; and WHEREAS, the Moab City Council joins with government and citizens organizations across the nation in holding that legislative district boundaries should be drawn in an objective, geographically practical manner; and WHEREAS, the Moab City Council agrees with a growing list of bi-partisan Utah organizations and individuals that a Redistricting Standards Commission is necessary to ensure that legislative district boundaries reflect the needs of Utah residents; and WHEREAS, the Moab City Council wishes to join the growing list of bi-partisan Utah organizations and individuals supporting a call to place an initiative establishing a Utah Redistricting Standards Commission on the November 2, 2010 general election ballot. NOW, THEREFORE, WE THE GOVERNING BODY of the City of Moab do hereby endorse the bi-partisan call that the law entitled "UTAH REDISTRICTING STANDARDS COMMISSION" be submitted to the legal voters of Utah for their approval or rejection at the regular general election to be held on November 2, 2010.
