Mayor's Message:
Why We Love Children
A kindergarten pupil told his teacher he'd found a cat, but it was dead. "How do you know the cat
was dead?" She asked him. "Because I pissed in its ear and it didn't move," answered the child
innocently. "You did WHAT?!!" The teacher exclaimed in surprise. "You know," explained the boy,
"I leaned over and went'Psst!' and it didn't move."
An exasperated mother, whose son was always getting into mischief, finally asked him, "How do
you expect to get into Heaven? The boy thought it over and said, "Well, I'll run in and out and in and
out and keep slamming the door until St Peter says, 'For Heaven's sake, Dylan, come in or stay out!"
One summer evening during a violent thunderstorm a mother was tucking her son into bed. She
was about to turn off the light when he asked with a tremor in his voice, "Mommy, willyou sleep
with me tonight?" The mother smiled and gave him a reassuring hug. "I can't dear," she said. "I
have to sleep in Daddy's room." A long silence was broken at last by his shaky little voice: "The big
sissy."
One day the first grade teacher was reading the story of Chicken Little to her class. She came to the
part where Chicken Little warns the farmer. She read, "...and Chicken Little went up to the farmer
and said, "The sky is falling!" The teacher then asked the class, "And what do you think that farmer
said?" One little girl raised her hand and said, "I think he said: 'Holy Sh*t! A talking chicken!" The
teacher was unable to teach for the next 10 minutes.
Sincerely, Mayor Brad Andersen

contest If you feel these programs are worthwhile, we invite you to support us in our fundraising
efforts. Active and supportive memberships are also available. These forms are available at the
library. We really appreciate your support and contributions.
Water Conservation as the weather warms up our water use also increases. According to the U.S.
EPA's WaterSense program, water consumption in the average American home on summer days
can spike to 1,000 gallons per day, compared to 260 gallons per day during "off peak" season.
Here are a few tips:
Water your lawn only when it needs it An easy test to tell if your lawn needs water is to simply
walk across the grass. If the lawn springs back you don't need to water, but if you leave
footprints, water may be needed. An added benefit of watering less often is that fewer, deep -
soaking waterings encourage deep root growth and stronger turf. Water in the early morning.
As much as 30 percent of water can be lost to evaporation by watering during midday. Set your
lawn mower one notch higher to make your lawn more drought -tolerant
Use a broom instead of a hose to clean your sidewalk, driveway or patio.
A short shower is better than a bath! A full bathtub can require up to 70 gallons of water, while
taking a 5-minute shower uses only 10 to 25 gallons. Turning off the tap while you brush your
teeth can save 8 gallons per day. Regularly check your toilet, faucets and pipes for leaks and
have them fixed promptly. An easy test for toilet leaks from EPA WaterSense: Place a drop of
food coloring in the tank. If the color tints the water in the bowl without flushing, there's a leak.
