TARRATT, DIRECTOR COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER REDWOOD CITY, CALIFORNIA 94063 TELEPHONE 369-1441 April 6, 1967. Mr. Robert G. Bezzant, City Engineer City of San Mateo 330 West 20th Avenue San Mateo, California Attention: Mr. John Gard, Office Engineer ENGINEERING DEPT. Dear Sir: Subject: Sidewalk Construction, East side of Delaware Street, abutting San Mateo County Fair Grounds Confirming my conversation, this date, as I mentioned to you I was intending to answer the letter that Mr. Duane McDowell, Executive Director of the San Mateo County Fair and Convention Association wrote to your office. The situation regarding the sidewalk on the east side of Dela- ware Street is as follows. 'EIVrY VP, We presented to the Fair Board this. year a budget consist- ing of a number of items. of work to be performed at the Fair Grounds. One of the items was the construction of sidewalk along County property on the easterly side of Delaware Street. The procedure in presenting this budget is that the Fair Directors will approve or disapprove of the same. They must also receive approval from the County Board of Supervisors and then they may provide funds for the work. At our last meeting with the Building and Grounds Committee of the Fair we discussed the sidewalk and it is my under- standing that they were in accord. Therefore, I would assume that they will budget for the same and, when the funds are available sometime after July 1, 1967, we can schedule to have the work done through this office. You had mentioned that it would also be appropriate if we con- sidered installation of street lighting along this side of Dela- Ware. I had not included street lighting in my estimate and it would be necessary for me to propose this to the Fair Board. If Mr. Robert G. Bezzant, City Engineer April 6, 1967. City of San_Mateo Page 2. you will give me a little sketch or plan showing what the City might require and approximate current cost thereof, I shall present the matter and see what their feelings may be. Whether or not the County would help defray any of the expenses of this work is something I shall have to check on with our County Mana- ger, Mr. Stallings. Normally the County expects the Fair to pay its own way on capital improvements. However, there is always a possibility that an improvement.Qf this kind might meet with the County's approval for assisting in funding. At any rate, we shall not have any funds available until after July 1, 1967, and there- fore no work can be done unt.i.l then. I shall keep you advised as to the situation as soon as can determine what the action will be. Very truly yours,: HENRY P. TA ,ATT,.. Director' HPT:ems cc:Duane McDowell c Fair & ConventionAss'n. As you will recall, the County undertook the financial res- ponsibility when improvements were made on Delaware Avenue some time ago. Therefore, the sidewalk construction, which is a continuation of that improvement project, is also a res- ponsibility of the County. I am sending a copy of your letter to Mr. Henry Tarratt, Director of Building Construction and General Services of the County, for his consideration. No doubt you will soon be receiving a reply directly from Mr. Tarratt relative to your request. The request may indicate that pedestrian traffic southerly to and from 25th Avenue, especially children, has increased considerably since the South Delaware Street improvements were constructed. .'e would very much appreciate your response giving us the position of the San Mateo County Fairgrounds Association on constructing a standard concrete sidewalk on the east side of South Delaware Street fronting your property. Thank you. RGB:AAM:ig cc: Don Wilson, County Engr. Very truly yours, ROBERT G . BEZZANT CITY ENGINEER
