HomeMy Public PortalAboutOrdinance 0869~~- .~ ~.,~ CHAPTER 7 ,~ .~ ARTICLE 5 CREATION OF ELECTRICAL COMMISSION BE IT ORDAINED BX THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF PLAINFIELD IN MEETING LAWFULLY ASSEMBLED AS FOLLOWS: Sec. 5-=2-4: Electrical Commission Established (Composition; Appointment). There is hereby established an Electrical Cammissa.on which sha11 consist of six (6) members as follows: The Chief Electrical Inspector shall be a member and ex officio chairman of the Commission, one member shall be a registered professional engineer, ane member an electrical contractor. ane member a journeyman electrician, one member a representative of an inspection bureau main- tained by the fire underwriters or the Chief of the _ - Plainfield Township Fire Protection District, and one member shall be a representative of an electricity sup- ply company,. If there is no person residing in the Village who is qualified under any one of these de~-- criptions, the President of the Village may appoint same other person to fill that position. All members of the Electrical Commission shall be appointed by the President of the Berard of Trustees with the advice and consent of the Corporate Authorities. Sec. 5-2-4-1: Duties. The Electrical Commission shall from time to time recommend safe and practical standards and specifications for the installation, alteration and use of electrical equipment designed to meet the neces- sities and conditions that prevail in the Village and shall recommend reasonable rules and regulations governing tie issuance of permits by the Electrical Inspector and shall recommend reasonable fees to be paid for inspections by the Inspector of all electrical equipment installed or altered within the Village; provided that these standards, specifications, rules, regulations and fees so recommended shall not become effective until adopted, by ordinance. Sec. 5-x-5: Electrical Inspector Created. There is ,hereby created the office o Electr~,cal Inspector. Sec. 5~-2-5-~1: Duties. The Electrical Inspectar sha11 inspect all elect ical equipment installed ox altered in the Village. and shall require that it conform to the standards and specifications applicable thereto which have been recommended and adapted by ordinance and shall carry out and perform such other duties as may be required .. ~ . of him by the provisions of the Elegy ..cal Code, by ordinances of the Village or as he may be directed to perform by the President of the Board of Trustees. The Electrical Inspector shal]. be ex officio chairman of the Electrical Commission and shall serve without additional compensation.. Sec. 5-2-5-2: Records of Permits and Inspections to be Kept. The Electrical Inspector shall complete com- plete records of all permits issued, inspections made and other official work performed. Sec. 5-~2-5-3: Ri ht of Entr Disconnection of Elec- trical Current.. The Electrical Inspector shall have the right dura.ng reasonable hours to enter any building in the discharge of his. duties, including the inspection or testing of an installation or alteration of electrical equipment contained therein, and he shall have the autor- ity to cause the turning off of all electrical current - when wiring is defective and to cut or disconnect any _ wire in cases of emergency where electrical current is dangerous to life or property ar may interfere with the work of any public safety agency. Sec. 5-2-5~-4: Certificate of Inspection; Notice to Inspector; The Inspection of Wire is to be Concealed. . Upon completion of the installation or alteration of electrical equipment in any building, it shall.be the .duty of the, person installing or altering the same to notify .the Electrical Inspector, who shall inspect or cause the work to be inspected within forty-eight (48) hours after written notice is given; if the electrical equipment is .found to be fully in compliance with applicable codes and ordinances and does not constitute a hazard to life and property, the Electrical Inspector shall issue to the person performing the electrical work, for delivery to the owner, a certificate of inspectign authorizing connection to the electrical service and turning an of the current. All wires which are to be hidden from view shall be inspected before concealment and any person installing hidden wires shall notify, in writing, the Electrical Inspector, giving Ziim forty- eight (48) hours in which to make the required inspec- ~` tion before the wires are concealed. Sec„ 5-2-5w5: Subse uent Ins ections Authorized; When New Permits Required. The provisions of inspection of work authorx~zed by the permits issued in accordance with the provisions of this Chapter shall not be construed as prohibiting ,the inspection of any electrical equip- ment now or hereafter installed whenever the Electrical Inspector shall determine that the .public safety requires it. No inspection fee shall be charged for such extra or additional inspection, but in case it becomes necessary to .replace the electrical equipment~5n account of defects disclosed by the inspection, a permit therefor shall be obtained in accordance with the provisions of this Ordinance. All ordinances or parts thereof in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption and approval as required by law and shall be num-~ bared as ordinance No. _~~ ~ - -. PASSED this ~ ~/ day of F 1976.
