A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CITY OF MOAB'S PARTICIPATION IN THE
SOUTHEASTERN UTAH ASSOCIATION OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT'S PRE -DISASTER
HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
WHEREAS, the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 requires all jurisdictions to be covered by a Pre -Disaster
Hazard Mitigation Plan to be eligible for Federal Emergency Management Agency post -disaster funds; and
WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA's) Local Hazard Mitigation Plan
requirements allow for the development of multi jurisdictional mitigation plans;
WHEREAS, the Southeastern Utah Association of Local Governments (SEUALG) has been contracted by
the State of Utah to prepare a Pre -Disaster Mitigation Plan covering all of the jurisdictions in the SEUALG
Area; and
WHEREAS, the SEUALG Executive Council approved SEUALG staff to write the plan; and
WHEREAS, the City of Moab is within the SEUALG Area; and
WHEREAS, the Moab City Council is concerned about mitigating potential losses from natural disasters
before they occur; and
WHEREAS, the plan will identify potential hazards, potential losses and potential mitigation measures to
limit losses; and
WHEREAS, the Moab City Council has determined that it would be in the best interest of the community
as a whole to participate in the SEUALG planning process to develop and adopt a multi jurisdictional Pre -
Disaster Hazard Mitigation Plan as it pertains to the City; therefore
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MOAB CITY COUNCIL that the City of Moab
commits to participate in the SEUALG Local Hazard Mitigation Plan planning effort according to FEMA's
guidance and requirements.
This Resolution shall be effective on the date it is adopted.
