Local Business
Fiscal responsibility and accountability, commitment, integrity, and an
ability to do what I've promised are not just campaign promises. These
are examples of my track record in Claremont.
I care about this community. I have served on the Board of Education
and the Los Angeles County Commission of Narcotics and Dangerous
Drugs, and was a founder and chair of the San Gabriel Valley Coalition
for Education.
Now I want to use my energy, common sense, and experience to
continue my civic duty on the council.
With limited funding, we have an obligation to examine our city's tax
dollars. I will work to balance community needs, as well as desires, with
available community resources. Being a partner in a self-owned business
has taught me to maintain service while controlling costs.
I will work to stop unfunded mandates that needlessly tie up local money
and to modify limitations on restricted monies on the local, regional and
state level.
Our city is dynamic. I want to continue coordinating efforts with all its
varied segments, while focusing on safe and vital neighborhoods, youth,
traffic, police protection, garbage, and other issues facing Claremont.
I ask for yöur ?upport, together we can build a better community.

FOR
MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL
COREY CALA YCA Y
Age~ 23
Occupation: Administrative Assistant
Claremont is a diverse community composed of individuals of many
different backgrounds, concerns, and-viewpoints. Despite this fact, a
significant number of decisions made by our city council, particularly on
controversial or contested issues, are approved with a unanimous (5-0)
vote. If we look at other levels of government, we see more split votes
and fewer unanimous votes. This welcome difference of opinion is better
known as "democracy." Cønsistent unanimous votes suggest a "group
think" mentality and discourage citizens with differing viewpoints from
participating in the political process. To quote General George Patton,
"if everyone is thinking alike, no one is thinking at all."
Claremont has been my home for twenty years. I am a graduate of
Foothill Country Day and Webb Schools. I received my degree in
business administration from Loyola Marymount University in 1992. I am
a parishioner of O.L.A. Catholic Church and served on the Local
Suppression of Drug Abuse in Schools Advisory Committee for Los
Angeles County from 1989-1992.
I am seeking the position of councilmember to bring a fresh perspective
to city government in an attempt to reflect the opinions of a greater
number of Claremont citizens.
I appreciate your support.

FOR
MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL
THOMAS WAYNE RIMRODT
Age: 27
Occupation: Graduate Student
If it is your belief that it is time for the bickering to stop between the City
and the Claremont Colleges, then I am the candidate that you have been
waiting for. It is my belief that the Colleges and the citizens of Claremont,
if they work together instead of against each other, can achieve much
more than any of us can imagine. In plain ordinary words, what I am
advocating is communication.
I believe that I am the best suited candidate (bridge builder) for this task.
Not only am I a home owner in Claremont, but also a Ph.D. student in
political science at the Claremont Graduate School and have experience
in the governance of an academic institution.
I have a masters in Public Administration emphasizing Public
Management and have practical experience in city governance. This
experience includes: Governmental Budgeting; Public Personnel
Administration; Public Finance Administration; and Local Government
Financial Management. Most recently, I acted as both assistant to the
City Manager and consultant for the Town of Atherton.
I have the training, knowledge, and experience to be on the Council, but
of greater importance, I have the will and the desire to do the best that
I can.

Mayor/Community Volunteer
Claremont is a community that works. Facing new, often harsh,
economic realities, we continue to move forward -- together -- by drawing
on our collective talents and deep commitment to our past and future.
Momentum in town remains vigorous: the building of a community-wide
process for goal-setting and financial planning, and the ongoing efforts
with the school district and other agencies to realize financial efficiencies
and streamline service delivery.
Our accomplishments are many: new affordable senior housing; hillside
preservation; increased maintenance of streets and sidewalks; the retrofit
of irrigation systems and landscaping that has saved 30% in water usage;
the reopening of our landmark depot and arrival of Metrolink.
Challenges remain. Exciting efforts are underway to meet our youth's
needs. We need to support business in these difficult times, and we
need to resolve issues so that both neighborhoods and colleges thrive.
Working with you in neighborhood groups, youth sports, PFA, chamber
of commerce, and other organizations has been my rich reward. I have
come to know many of you, and I am awed by all you do for this
community. I pledge to do the same, and welcome your continued
support in making Claremont a great place to live and work.

FOR
MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL
ALGIRD G. LEIGA
Age: 60
Occupation: Business Executive/Councifmember
As a Councifmemb~r, I will continue to apply a business oriented
approach to solving problems. I am actively involved in our community
where I am President of the Claremont Community Coordinating Council,
Chair of Pomona Valley Transportation Authority and a board member of
both the San Gabriel Valley Association of Cities and Mosquito
Abatement District. My community service experience will help me
address issues associated with public safety, youth, city services, air
quality, transportation and planning.
I will use my business management experience to improve our financial
health through sound budgeting, improved operating efficiencies and
business development. Maintaining and improving public safety is a high
priority. In cooperation with our schools, I want our community to
implement meaningful youth programs and joint operating efficiencies.
I will continue to listen to people to make our city more friendly to
businesses and citizens.
I have proudly served on the Council these last four years, and I have
worked to keep Claremont a city we call home with safe streets, youth
activities, senior citizen programs, well maintained roads and beautiful
trees. I will maintain the qualities that drew us all to this community. I
ask for your vote and ideas to continue to improve our city.
