Hello September!
Our calendar for this month has many nee: offerngs. ','-le will be hosting a special
presentation via Zoom with Honoring Choices Massachusetts about the importance of
completing your health care proxy; and we will explore the magic of Paul Newman and
Joanne Woodward by reviewing their roles in film and learning a bit more about their
personal lives. We will also welcome at the end of the month, Mary DeCourcey from Mount
Auburn Hospital for a presentation about falls management and strategies for staying strong
while at home. We have added a new Pilates class to the calendar and a new Line Dancing
class, both to be offered via Zoom. Our sincere thanks to Manny and Diane who led our line
dancers for so many years and who announced their retirement last month. We wish them
well; they will be missed! We hope you will join us for these and our other programs at any
time during the month. As always, you can participate by phone if you don't have a computer.
Call us to learn more. We are happy to assist you.
Medicare Open Enrollment is right around the corner and begins October 15. You will soon
be receiving information in the mail. Please call us to connect you with a SHINE counselor
who can answer questions and help you review your prescription drug plans. Reviewing your
plans each year may help you to save money.
Election information, including dates for early voting and changes to polling locations can be
found inside on page 6. There will be no voting at the E. Joyce Munger apartments at 100

The Senior Center remains closed until further notice,
,and we will continue to offer Zoom classes and webinars
in September and, most likely, in October. If you are new to
Pcac,
om technology: you can join the Zoom program from a PC,
iPad, iPhone, or any Smartphone that has DATA (Internet
service) in the plan. In case you don't have a Smartphone,
you can Still connect to the conference 'pia your landline phone. Call us with the request to join certain
class or webinar and the host of the Zoom program (a Senior Center staff person) will call your cell phone or
your landline to connect you to the Zoom session with no video.
WE CAN HELP!
Our Zoom community grew during the last four months, but we are still working on bringing people aboard. We
know that some seniors want to participate in our activities, have access to the Internet and gadgets, but are
still confused and frustrated about using email, Internet browsers, and downloading applications.
If you know people who are struggling, who feel lonely, but not making this final leap into the
Zoom community, please encourage them to call us or to reach out to friends and family for
technical support. We know about several success stories that prove that one can always learn
new things no matter how old he or she is.
The Watertown COA thanks all of the advertisers who support this newsletter via LPI. Nevertheless, placement of

Some of you may have attended narrated slideshows I've given in the past —at the
Watertown Library or the Senior Center —on various nature -related topics, ranging
from "Watertown's Gathering P/aces, " Wi/d/ife Along the Char/es River, "to "The
Seasons of the Char/es, "and "The Birds and the Bees. "
The natural world —whether in the wild or near urban settings --is the focus of my
photographic work. My "shooting" often happens in Watertown green spaces (Mt.
Auburn Cemetery, the Charles River Path, and neighborhoods). Photography con-
nects me to the natural world in an intimate and immediate way and anchors me.
feel an emotional connection to the living things I photograph.
Wandering out of doors is an energizing and joyful endeavor for me, as is the mak-
ing of photographs to share revelatory discoveries with others. I am personally moti-
vated by the belief that the love and appreciation of our living planet can lead to the
protection of its environment.
I've chosen several photographs to share here. I hope that my love for these natural
wonders comes through the lens to you. For more info about my work, email me at
csbernev@rcn.com.

e. r Watertown Seniors,
I care about you and hope you are doing okay! Even though the building is closed to visitors,
am available by telephone and E-mail to assist you with applications for housing, fuel
assistance, food stamps (SNAP), MassHealth, or other issues pertaining to your health and
well-being.
I can help you to identify a problem and then outline with you the steps we need to take to
resolve it. We might need to schedule another phone call and I may need to get necessary
documents from you, but we will work it out together.
During the last few months, I helped seniors with a wide -range of issues that included facing
eviction, negotiating rent, and getting food or prescriptions.
I also yam happy to speak with you to just say hello. I know how lonely it has been for many of
our seniors. I hope I can help by adding some happiness to your day!
Please put our number in a visible spot and know that I am available for you.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT HEALTH CARE PROXY
Ifs''.
0r in, CI-1O14
MASSACHUSETTS
Your Health Care. Your Choice)
Honoring Choices provides health care planning
information and free Massachusetts planning docu-
ments to take charge of your health care decisions
and write down what you want for care in a person-
al health care plan. You plan is your road map to
share with your family and health care providers to
get timely, equitable, quality care over your lifetime
Make your own plan. You can do-it-yourself. Down-
load a free Getting Started Tool Kit, or individual
multi-lingual Health Care Proxy and Personal Di-
rective (Living Will).
Get help from the Honoring Choices Community
Partners. We are working with an amazing network
of health care and community groups across the
Commonwealth, who can help you make a plan and
get you connected to needed care and services in
your community.
What is a Health Care Proxy?
As a competent adult, starting at 18 years old, you
have the right to direct your health care choices and
make your own health care plan. A good place to
start to make your plan is to choose a trusted per-
son called a Health Care Agent or "Agent". An Agent
is your advocate with the power to make health
care decisions on your behalf if you are unable to
make decisions yourself. You appoint an Agent in a
legal document called a Health Care Proxy.
WPWn k *f r dtio WjKat Matter: NOW -Ali MA 111 %S3111 Cali...
CIt.w YM d. .yaw e.r.cF.rcw.i ,.I ,T• •rr p^..Ir,l.
Here's how it works —
Accidents and illness can happen any time, at any
age.
An Agent is your advocate who steps in to make
health care decisions to get you the care you
want if you are unable to make health care deci-
sions for yourself, even for a short time, while you
recover.
Your Agent has the legal power to speak to your
doctors about your condition and treatment op-
tions, look at your medical records, and make
health care decisions to get you the best possible
care that aligns with your goals, values and choic-
es.
In Massachusetts, a spouse, family or friend does
not automatically have the legal authority to make
health decisions on your behalf unless appointed in
a Health Care Proxy.
You can do-it-yourself or complete with an attor-
ney, and then give it to your doctors and family
members for safe -keeping and easy reference.
