Dear Rio Vista Area Residents, AN 20 2021
Every year, Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG) receives numerous reports of
nuisance black bears in this neighborhood. We have already received
several reports of bears this year.
Rio Vista consistently has a significant human food problem. We routinely
see overfull trash cans and cans out for several days prior to pick up. Many
residents persist in putting out birdseed or hummingbird feeders during
summer. All .these things_ attract bears.
McCall City Code 5.8.050 requires all waste, garbage and refuse to be
placed within a properly secured and latched bearproof container.
When bears become too accustomed to human food, or lose their fear of
people, IDFG has no choice but to trap and lethally remove those bears.
Please take the following steps immediately to avoid this:
• Ensure garbage cans are latched securely. Do not overfill cans.
• Store garbage cans in a garage or shed that has well-sealed doors.
• Do not put trash cans at the curb until the morning of pick up.
• Never tamper with latches on bear resistant containers. You may
contact Lakeshore Disposal to request a new container if needed.
• Do not keep coolers, refrigerators, or freezers outside or on porches.
• Feed birds only during winter.
• Feed pets and keep pet food indoors, especially at night.
Owners, please ensure your renters follow these guidelines,_and tell them
their behavior can result in lethal removal of bears in this area.
It is extremely important that all residents of this area immediately
take measures to avoid habituating more bears to human food.
A Fed Bear is a Dead Bear.
Please help us avoid needing to trap V City Of
McCall
and euthanize bears here in the 1DA"o
future.
