April is National Volunteer Recognition month and on April 241", the Council on Aging will host a Volunteer Celebration in honor of those who provide volunteer service to the Senior Center and to the Watertown Food Pantry. We are most grateful to all of our volunteers who dedicate their time to helping others. For those of you who still need to complete income taxes, the AARP tax preparers have a few appointments available. Call the Senior Center for more details. On April 18t", local artist Dawn Scaltreto will lead participants in a special polymer clay class. On April 251", AARP will bring its Senior Driver Safety Program to the Senior Center to help senior drivers keep driving knowledge fresh while reducing risk to self, passengers and others on the road. You won't want to miss it! Spring means trips! The Watertown Senior Shuttle will be traveling to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston on April 251" and you'll want to check out the other upcoming trips listed inside. Offerings include a visit to the PawSox, Tower Hill Botanical Gardens, theatre trips, cruises and more! The ever -popular Public Safety mornings continue on Thursdays with Captain Ryan Nicholson of the Watertown FireR�"` Department and on the 2nd and 41" Tuesdays with Police Chief Michael Lawn and Captain Ray Dupuis. Our Canasta and Chess groups are looking for more players, and we are seeking volunteers to help prepare our garden for spring and summer. We hope you will join us. There are 15 clinics in the Boston area that provide services to people with low income. These services include: Cleanings, Checkups, Caps, Dentures, and Braces. The mailings are being done by region and Massachusetts residents are not expected to begin getting new cards until after June 2018. • To help prevent identity theft, new cards won't include Social Security numbers. Instead, each person will get a new unique Medicare Number. • You don't need to do anything to get a new card, but you should make sure your mailing address is up to date. Visit ssa.gov/myaccount or call 1-800-772-1213 (TTY: 1-800- 325-0778) to correct your mailing address, if updates are needed. • Medicare will never call and ask for personal information before sending new cards, so don't share your Medicare Number or other personal information if someone calls and asks for it. They offer free, confidential counseling on all aspects of health insurance to anyone on Medicare. To schedule a SHINE appointment, call the Watertown Senior Center at 617-972-6490.
