HomeMy Public PortalAbout2013-30a Urging MDC Mayor to take emergency action to remove cyclists from Bear Cut Bridge vehicular traffic lanes during constrRESOLUTION NO. 2013-30a A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA, URGING THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY MAYOR TO TAKE EMERGENCY ACTION TO REMOVE CYCLISTS FROM BEAR CUT BRIDGE VEHICULAR TRAFFIC LANES DURING CONSTRUCTION; PROVIDING FOR NOTICE TO MIAMI- DADE COUNTY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Miami -Dade County has commenced repairs/reconstruction of the Bear Cut Bridge (the "Bridge") within the area of Rickenbacker Causeway/Key Biscayne; and WHEREAS, the work has necessitated temporary closure and realignment of traffic lanes along the Bridge; and WHEREAS, the current configuration of the drive lanes provide for the sharing of lanes by both motor vehicles and cyclists in a use knows as "ShareO," and WHEREAS, the ShareO use creates a dangerous and hazardous condition on the Bridge for cyclists, pedestrians and motorists; and WHEREAS, to protect the health, safety, welfare and lives of the cyclists and all users of the Bridge, the Village Council believes there must be a complete and absolute separation between cyclists and motor vehicles on the Bridge during the period of construction. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Recitals Adopted. Each of the above stated recitals are hereby adopted, confirmed and incorporated herein. Section 2. County Action. The Village Council urges the Mayor of Miami -Dade County to immediately take all steps necessary to eliminate the ShareO operation/condition on the Bridge and during construction permanently segregate and remove the cyclists from the motor vehicle traffic lanes through all legal means available, including, if necessary, the use solid barrier walls. The Mayor is further urged to take all other measures necessary to implement the intent of this Resolution. Section 3. Notice. The Village Clerk is hereby directed to immediately deliver a copy of this Resolution to the Miami -Dade County Mayor and all members of the Miami -Dade County Commission. Section 4. Effective Date. This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 13th day of August, 201 TA H.
