Och*Q Notes f ro-w%, +ke P r
October is a busy month at the Senior Center and we hope you will join us for an informative program or fitness class. If you
haven't visited in awhile, stop in and say hello, grab a cup of coffee, browse our lending library, and share in some
conversation with others in the lounge. Perhaps you'll try your hand at chess or cribbage, or bring your laptop and surf the
web on our free WiFi. If you or a friend cannot make it to the Center, give us a call and let us know how we can help.
It's that time again! Medicare Open Enrollment begins October 15 and our SHINE counselor will be taking
appointments on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. This is a free service. Please do not ignore your Medicare mail. Our
SHINE counselor can help you understand what you need to do. On October 25 we welcome back Bruce Hambro for a
musical montage and discussion of the legendary Judy Garland. Our October Lunch and Learn will feature a presentation
by Ken Thompson, Watertown Building Inspector, about what you need to know about The Permit
Process for Home Improvements. A Flu Clinic has been scheduled for October 10 and the ri
Mount Ida Dental Hygiene Program will be joining us again on October 5 for the second
presentation in its series on Good Dental Health and to offer oral screenings.
In response to requests for new and different programs, we have had to change the schedule of
some programs and fitness classes to accommodate the offerings, so please make sure to check
our calendar before you come to the Center. We appreciate your cooperation.
Wishing you all a Happy Autumn,

Join us to discuss Dark Tide by Stephen Puleo
Fischer. Copies of the book are available at
the Watertown Free Public Library.
On January 15, 1919, a group of firefighters in
Boston's North End heard a tremendous crash.
It was like roaring surf, one of them said later.
A third firefighter looked out a window -"Oh my
God" he shouted to the other men, "Run!" A
50-foot-tall steel tank filled with 2.3 million
gallons of molasses had just collapsed on
Boston's waterfront, disgorging its contents as
a 15-foot-high wave of molasses that at its
outset traveled at 35 miles an hour. It
demolished wooden homes, even the brick fire
station. The number of dead wasn't known for
days. It would be years before a landmark
court battle determined who was responsible
for the disaster.
