Greetings from the Director
Thank you all so much for the warm welcome. I am
honored to have received this opportunity to serve the
Watertown community and I look forward to working
with the Council on Aging Board of Directors, the staff
at the Center and you to offer exciting programs and
services to Be Well and Age Well. Sincere thanks to
Caryl Fox for her extraordinary tenure and to the staff —
Debbie, Rae, Marina, Joe, Alfredo and the volunteers
for their tireless dedication.
September has a lot to offer including a farewell
Celebration for Joe, our retired bus driver, important
presentations about Medicare Open Enrollment and
Stroke Signs and Signals; and an in-house
performance by the Delvena Theatre. Please stop in
and say hello! I look forward to meeting you.

SCALLOP FESTIVAL and
GLASS MUSEUM TRIP
Join the Watertown seniors as we travel to
the upper cape for the annual Scallop Fes-
tival. We start our day with shopping at
the Christmas Tree Shop and then head to
Falmouth for the Scallop Festival. You
have a choice of fried scallops or roast
chicken. There will be time to visit the
craft tents before heading to the Sandwich
Glass Museum where you can see the
special exhibit: Glass Impressions - A
Tribute to Donald and Margaret Segur.
The art collection reflects the Segur's
passions for travel as well as their whimsi-
cal nature.

FALL FOLIAGE TRIP
Join the Watertown seniors when we set off for
Winchendon, MA for Smith's Country Cheese. Our
next stop is lunch at the Old Mill Restaurant where
your luncheon choices are: Baked Stuffed Filet of
Sole Almandine, Roasted Stuffed Chicken with
Supreme Sauce, or Yankee Pot Roast with Jardiniere
Gravy, and Homemade Apple Crisp with Whipped
Cream for dessert. Our last stop is Brookfield
Orchards where you can stock up on apples, pastries,
and much more.

WATERTOWN SENIOR CENTER CASE WORKER
DiCi,J ou k1ZOW that the Senior Center has a case worker, Marina Kirsanova, who can help with a
variety of issues that you and your family might encounter in your everyday life or during a life transitioning
experiences? Please call or come to the Center to schedule a meeting with Marina to explore assistance
options that are available through the Center: emotional support, help with paperwork, small assistance
grants, and guidance on the services and opportunities available in the neighborhood and in the Metro
Boston area. Marina may visit you in your home or at the Center and all conversations are
confidential. Marina is fluent in English, Russian and Armenian.
You may request her assistance with filling out and following up on the applications for Food Stamps and
Fuel Assistance. She will guide you on compiling information and filing applications for MassHealth and
the Housing Authorities in Watertown and neighboring towns.
Marina will consult with you, your family, and/or friends about the senior home care services available in
the area and about the process of referral, assessment, and service provision. The case worker will search for
information on the services for you in case you don't have access to the Internet and will, if needed, advocate
for you with the other agencies and authorities.

Join us to discuss Light Between Two
Oceans by M.L. Stedman.
Copies of the book are available at the
Watertown Free Public Library. After four
harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom
Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a
job as the lighthouse keeper. To this isolat-
ed island, where supply boat comes once a
season, Tom brings a young, bold, and lov-
ing wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscar-
riages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel
hears a baby's cries on the wind. A boat has
washed up onshore carrying a dead man
and a living baby. Tom, wants to report the
man and infant immediately, but Isabel in-
sists the baby is a "gift from God," and
against Tom's judgment, they claim her as
their own. When she is two, Tom and Isabel
return to the mainland and are reminded that
there are other people in the world. Their
choice has devastated one of them.

ing at 9:30 a.m. There is no charge for this service
but donations to the Senior Center are appreciated.

Watertown Senior Parking Permits
Registration for the Watertown Senior Parking Permits are ongoing. If you haven't applied for
one yet or if yours is going to expire visit the Watertown Senior Center, 31 Marshall St
We are open Monday - Friday 8:30 am. - 5:00 p.m.
• Permits are available to Watertown residents age 65 and older.
• The cost is $2.00 for one year, $3.00 for two years.
• Participant must brim driver's license and car registration as proof of residency and owner-
ship of the car. The address on both must be the same. (If the car is leased, bring a copy of
the lease agreement.)
• Sticker may only be used by the person to whoin it was issued, and is not transferable to an-
other person. Any misuse shall be cause for revocation.
• The Parking Permit is valid for up to two hours ONLY at 2 hour meters located in the
Municipal parking lots (behind the Main Library, CVS parking lot, and Coolidge St. lot.)
Cars parked longer than two hours inay be ticketed.
