OPPOSING SENATE BILLS -1987
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 5 -1987 was introduced and approved bythe Senate of the
State of New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, 5 -1987 would prohibit the Department of Education from regulating the
maximum salary amount a board of education could provide to a superintendent
of schools pursuant to the local employment contract; and {
WHEREAS, the executive county superintendent of schools was previously given the
authority to review and approve all employment contracts for superintendents
according to standards adopted by the Commissioner of Education, which provided
that no contract for a superintendent is permitted to include an annual salary in excess
of the maximum salary amount, which varies according to school district population;
and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret,
County of Middlesex, State of New Jersey as follows:
1. That the Borough of Carteret opposes Senate Bill S -1987.
2. That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Commissioner of
Education, Senator Joseph Vitale, Assemblyman Craig Coughlin and
Assemblyman John Wismewski.
