Does Medicare Cover Fitness Programs?
While Original Medicare does not cover gym memberships or fitness programs, some Medicare Ad-
vantage (HMO or PPO) plans and Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) plans do. Many offer a
Fitness Benefit that can save you up to $150 per calendar year in qualified health club membership fees
and exercise classes. Some plans offer the Silver Sneakers program. Fitness classes available at senior
centers may also be eligible for reimbursement.
Contact your plan to get information about what fitness benefits it offers. Make sure you don't miss the
deadline for getting reimbursed for fitness expenses you paid in 2014!

COUNCIL ON AGING BOARD
The COA Board will meet at 5:30 pm, Wednes-
day, March 11 at the Watertown Senior Center,
31 Marshall St.
THE SENIOR CENTER BOOK CLUB
WHEN.• 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 18
to discuss: A Woman of Independent
Means by Elizabeth Forsythe Hailey
Copies of the book are available at the Water-
town Free Public Library.
Here is a brief synopsis of the book: A best-
selling sensation when it was first pub-
lished in 1978, A Woman of Independ-
ent Means has delighted millions of
readers and was the inspiration for the
television miniseries starring Sally Field.
At the turn of the century, a time when
women had few choices, Bess Steed Gar-
ner inherits a legacy —not only of wealth
but of determination and desire, making
her truly a woman of independent means
From the early 1900s through the 1960s,
we accompany Bess as she endures life's
trials and triumphs with unfailing cour-
age and indomitable spirit: the sacrifices
love sometimes requires of the heart, the
flaws and rewards of marriage, the often -
tested bond between mother and child,
and the will to defy a society that de-
mands conformity. A new generation of
readers will be introduced to this richly
woven story and to Bess Steed Garner, a
woman truly for all ages.

COLD WEATHER FACTS
Elderly people are particularly vulnerable to
cold weather and are at an increased risk of
developing hypothermia- the result of a be- - }
low -normal body temperature. Be aware of
the danger signals: puffy face, shivering, con-
fusion, stiff muscles, forgetfulness, sleepy &
hard to wake, stomach is cold to the touch,
trembling arms or legs.
Prevention tips: Dress in several layers of loose -fitting
warm clothing; be sure that clothing is dry, not damp or
wet; make sure the temperature in the room is adjusted ap-
propriately, i.e. no lower than 65 degrees; wear a hat, mit-
tens & scarf to conserve body heat; use a hot water bottle,
heating pad or electric blanket to help keep bed warm.
There are also some medications that make the elderly
more susceptible to hypothermia.
