NOVEMBER 2015 WATERTOWN SENIOR NEWS PAGE WATERTOWN FOOD PANTRY The Watertown Food Pantry is looking for volunteer drivers to deliver food to Watertown homebound residents. The commitment is one afternoon per month. For more information call the Senior Center at 617-972-6490. METRO WEST LEGAL An attorney from Metro West Legal Services will offer office hours on Friday, November 20th from 10:00 am to 12 pm. Appointments are required: contact the Senior Center at 617-9 72-6490 to schedule an appointment. SALEM CROSS INN & SHOPPING Join the Watertown Seniors as we start our day off at the Christmas Tree Shop where you'll find lots of bargains for the coming holidays. Next we travel to the Salem Cross Inn for an apple pie demonstration. Our meal choices today are: Freshed Baked Boston Schrod or Chicken Pie served on a Buttermilk Biscuit. FUEL ASSISTANCE The Low -Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a Federal Program that operates between November ist and April 30th to provide home heating assistance to residents who are at or below 60®/® of the state median income level. Eligibility is based on household size and the gross annual income of every household member, 18 years of age or older. Household income cannot exceed 6o% of estimated State Median Income (see chart below.) Household of one- $33,126 Household of two - $43319 Household of three - $53,511 Household of four - $63,704 Watertown seniors (first-time applicants) may apply at the Senior Center. Call 617-972-6490 to make an appointment starting November i. If you received fuel assistance last year, you should have received a renewal application in the mail. This application must be filled out and returned to remain eligible for the program. PAGE 4 WATERTOWN SENIOR NEWS NOVEMBER 2015 *** IMPORTANT REMINDER*** The Medicare Open Enrollment ends on December 7th! Don't Wait Until It's Too Late! Make a SHINE Appointment Now! Every year, Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage (HMO, PPO) plans can change their premiums, co -pays, deducti- bles, formularies (list of drugs covered) and preferred pharmacies. It's important to review your options EVERY year to make sure you have the plan that works best for you for next year. Assistance is available from the SHINE program. Call your Senior Center and ask for a SHINE ap- pointment. Trained SHINE volunteers offer free, confidential counseling on all aspects of health insur- ance to anyone on Medicare. If there are no more appointments available at your center before December 7, there are additional ap- pointments in Framingham (508-532-5980, then press 0) and Needham (781-455-7555). Please call be- tween 9AM and 4PM and ask the receptionist at the front desk for a SHINE appointment. For Medicare related matters (other than an appointment), call 1-800-AGE-INFO (1-800-243-4636), then press or say 3. Once you get the SHINE answering machine, leave your name and number. A vol- unteer will return your call within 2 days. For assistance 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, call 1-800-MEDICARE to speak to a Medicare customer service representa- tive.
