HomeMy Public PortalAboutOrdinance 00:12Councilman Presems 0~e R)llowing O~dinnnce Seconded by Councilman ESTABLISHING THE POSITION OF SENIOR PE~IT CLERK, TYPING IN THE BOROUGH OF CARTE~T BE IT O~AINED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Caneret that there is hereby created the position of Senior Pe~it Clerk, Typing in the Borough of Carteret. The Senior Pe~it Clerk, Typing shall work under the supervision of the Construction Official and shall perform the work set forth herein: DEFINITION: Under direction performs the mom responsible clerical work involved in issuance of permits for construction, repair, installation, and demolition operations, and takes the lead in a small unit; does other related duties and typing as required. Note: The example of work for this title are for illustrative purposes only. A particular position using this title may not perform all duties listed in this job specification. Conversely, all duties performed on the job may not be listed. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Types documents from varied forms of copy. Organizes assigned work and develop effective work methods. May assist with training new clerical employees. Gives assignments to employees. Composes replies to routine correspondence. Receives, reviews and adjusts complaints. Supervises a designated phase of the unit clerical activity. Checks permit applications for completeness/compliance with applicable regulations. May assist applicants questions in completing applications. Answers applicants questions regarding regulations pertaining to the proposed work. Issues permits. Collects permit fees and records monies received in accounts. Notifies inspection units of projects that require their attention. Complies various reports detailing the type of work that has been authorized by the granting of permits. Maintains, classifies, indexes and cross-references records and files. NO. 00-12 PAGE2 of 2 Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units. REQUIREMENTS: Experience: Two (2) years of experience in clerical work. License: Appointees will require to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather then employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position. Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of procedures to be followed to secure permits for construction, repairs, installation and demolition operations. Knowledge of local regulations that pertain to the granting of various permits after a period of training. Ability to deal with public tactfully and promptly. Ability to understand and apply local ordinances, resolutions, and codes referring to construction and demolition operations. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports. Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units. Ability to mad, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
