MEETING MINUTES
May 4, 2011

Meeting came to order at 8:00 a.m.; the March minutes were approved.
Anniversary Resolution for MSP Discussion
Dan Klindt presented a plan for a 175th MSP Anniversary that includes a beer garden on
city right-of-way (Chestnut Street). To accommodate the beer garden, city property is
proposed on Chestnut Street immediately north of the Capitol Ave intersection. The
Committee agreed to forward a resolution for permissive use for the MSP event to the full
Council for approval.
Other Business
Mary Schanz spoke about providing a yard waste enhancement to the contract.
Curbside pickup is an interest as an option. Charlie Lansford indicated that the staff is
meeting with yard waste contractor to private service on a fee basis. Options will be
brought back to the committee for further discussion.
Electrical Board Ordinance Modification
Charlie Lansford reviewed the modification to the ordinance that expands the area for
the electrical board to Callaway County. The Committee agreed to forward the
ordinance to the full Council for consideration.
Appointments Review
The Committee forwarded the following appointments for approval: Plg Board-Jerry
Raithel Jr; TIF-Jon Schnitzler & Robert Gammon; Parks & Rec-Edith Vogel, Garten Pollard,
Brad Bates; P&Z-Ralph Robinett, Chris Yarnell; Michael Lester & Bunnie Cotton & Dale
Vaughn(alts); Historic Pres-Carlos Graham; Board of Adj-Stacy Young &Steven Burks(alts)
Other Business
Councilman Scrivner discussed the need for a committee to work with the staff
communications manager. This board would be composed of communications
professionals to assist with devising a plan to promote the city, a speakers’ bureau and a
prepared message to the public. The Committee agreed that a communications
committee is a good idea. Bob Scrivner will continue to fine tune this idea and bring it
back to the next meeting of the committee for further discussion.
Meetings will be held the first Wednesday of each month at 8:00 a.m.
Meeting adjourned at 9:05 a.m.
