HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-26-2002 THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, SEPTEMBER 26, 2002 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met at 5 p.m.Thursday, September 26, 2002, in the Community Room in the Municipal Building. Chairperson Bob Goodwin presided,with Robin Henry, Bruce Metzger and Assistant City Attorney Steve Rabe in attendance. The following business was conducted: APPROVAL OF MINUTES There were no minutes to approve. CLAIMS FOR PAYMENT Henry presented two sets of claims from the Finance Department for$180,259.88 and $434,302.29 and made a motion to accept, second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a voice vote. BID OPENING A. The following bids were opened for the demolition of seven properties in the city: Mike Delucio &Son, Cox Excavating, Butler Excavating and Reynolds Service Tech. Each structure was bid individually. The bids were given to Interim Assistant Director of Planning Wayne Jackson to be reviewed and awarded later this evening. REQUESTS A. Goodwin read a letter from Jim Disney of the Veterans Service Office requesting the use of the Freedom Fountain area to serve lunch on October 8, 2002 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The monies collected will be to pay the last of the debt on the Vietnam Memorial. Henry made a motion to approve, second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a voice vote. B. Fire Chief Mike Allen requested the temporary closing of Industries Road on October 16, 17, and 18, 2002 to conduct their annual driver training safety. Metzger moved to approve, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. BID AWARD A. Goodwin read a letter from Gordon Moore, Street Commissioner, requesting that the salt contract for the 2002-2003 winter season be awarded to Morton Salt for$36.04 per ton delivered. Henry moved to approve, second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a voice vote. BID OPENING A. The following bids were opened for Heating and Air Conditioning at Fire Station#1: Loman Metal Shop, Eaton, OH $2,610 and Bader Mechanical, Richmond, IN $2,740. These bids will be reviewed and awarded at a later date. LETTER TO FIRE DEPARTMENT A. Chief Allen read a letter from Brady Ware thanking the Fire Department for itshard work. A monetary donation was given to the Department to help purchase a Thermo Imaging Camera. Board of Works Minutes Cont'd. September 26, 2002 Page 2 BID AWARD A. Jackson recommended the following bids be awarded for the demolition of seven properties: Potter's Excavating, 1018 Butler Street, $3,850: Butler Excavating, 531 North 18th Street, $3,000.00; Potter Excavating, 1205 Boyer Street, garage only, $800.00; Potter Excavating, 506 North 18th Street, $4,250; Potter Excavating, 1126 Sheridan Street, $3,800; Potter Excavating, 1219 Sheridan, $4,000. Jackson explained that 318 South 11th Street was a property listed to be demolished but the owners had been given until the end of November to complete remodeling on the structure or it would be demolished. Henry made a motion to approve, second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a voice vote. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, on a motion duly made, seconded and passed, and carried on a voice vote, the meeting was adjourned.
