HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-28-2002 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, FEBRUARY 28,2002 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met at 5 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2002, in the Community Room in the Municipal Building. Chairperson Bob Goodwin presided with, Bruce Metzger and Assistant City Attorney Steve Rabe in attendance. Robin Henry was absent. The following business was conducted: APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes will held for the next meeting. CLAIMS FOR PAYMENT Goodwin presented claims for payment from the Finance Department in the amount of$65,125.94 and moved for approval, second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a voice vote. CLARIFICATION ON ORDER TO IMPOUND DOGS A. Rabe explained that the owners of the dogs have 7 days to comply with the dangerous/vicious dog order. One of the requirements is that they must carry$100,000 of liability insurance and as of this date they have not been able to do that. Rabe asked for additional time to see if he could help. Metzger said if the dogs get loose in the next week, the animal control officer has the authority to impound them. Metzger moved to wait a week for a decision, second by Goodwin and the motion was carried on a voice vote. BID OPENINGS A. One bid was received for timber sales and that was Buchan Logging, of New Haven, Indiana in the amount of$87,858. This bid will be reviewed and awarded at a later date. B. The following bids were opened for the Mowing Contract for City owned property: R& K Lawn Service with an hourly rate of$58.95 for contract (a), (b), and (c); George Faulkenburg, $56.00 an hour for contract(a), (b)and (c); Rinehart's Lawn and Landscaping, contract(a)$53.00, (b)$56.00 and (c) $57.00 an hour; Greenleaf Lawn Care, contract(a), (b)and (c) $52.00 and hour. These bids will be reviewed and awarded at a later date. CONTRACT A. City Attorney Bob Bever said that at a previous meeting, this board approved a $50,000 price reduction on a lot in Midwest Industrial Park if E.D.C. sold that lot to its prospective purchaser for the Carpenter Building. Bever is asking for an additional 30 days, so that they can sign off on this contract which they failed to do at that time. Metzger move to approve, second by Goodwin and the motion was carried on a voice vote. INTRODUCTION OF STUDENTS Students were introduced from a government class at Richmond High School.
