HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-18-2001 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, OCTOBER 18, 2001 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met at 5 p.m.Thursday, October 18, 2001, in the Community Room in the Municipal Building.Vice Chairperson Robin Henry presided with Bruce Metzger and Assistant City Attorney Steve Rabe present. Bob Goodwin was absent. The following business was conducted: APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes for October 4, and 11, 2001 were not approved due to the absence of Goodwin and Henry's absence at those meetings. CLAIMS FOR PAYMENT There were no claims for payment. REQUESTS A. Henry read a letter from Duane Roland of Lingle Real Estate requesting approval to reconstruct their canopy and to extend the canopy an additional 10"over the walk. Metzger moved to approve, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. B. Henry read a letter from Denise Newland, Special Events Coordinator for Richmond Parks and Recreation, requesting permission to place a banner advertisement for"Fright Night"at the corner of Main and North "A"13`d Streets. Metzger moved to approve, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. CHANGE ORDER A. City Engineer Bob Wiwi requested change order#2 on Starr Senior Apartment Infrastructure Improvements. The reduction is for$339.75 with the new total being $87,796.25. Metzger moved to approve, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. BID OPENING A. The following bids were opened for street repairs in the 500 block of South "L" Street: Potter Excavating $5,800; Butler Contractors $4,600; and Bowlin Construction $6,740. These bids will be reviewed and awarded at a later date. BID AWARD A. Henry read a letter from Purchasing Director Vicki Stevens stating that the old concession building in the park will need to be tested for asbestos because of the type of building it is. Stevens asked that all bids be rejected and that it be re-bid at a later date. Metzger moved to approve, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. B. Wiwi reviewed the bids this evening for the street repairs in the 500 block of South "L" Street and recommended the bid be awarded to Butler Contractors in the amount of $4,600. Metzger moved to approve, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. BOW Minutes Cont'd October 18, 2001 Page 2 GIS CONTRACT A. Rabe explained that he had reviewed the GIS contract which is an inter-local agreement between the Richmond Sanitary District,Wayne County, Economic Development and the City of Richmond, whereby these four entities would equally split'/4 of the cost of maintaining the GIS system. Rabe said he would propose that anti-discrimination language be added which is required by state statute and to add that there is no mechanism for an entity to withdraw. Metzger moved to approve, subject to the changes Rabe outlined, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. INTRODUCTION OF STUDENT Henry welcomed a student from Centerville High School government class. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, on a motion duly made, seconded and passed, and carried on a voice vote, the meeting was adjourned.
