The listing below is by Section of the Sign Ordinance to detail the changes that are being proposed for this ordinance.
The revising of the Sign Ordinance is being conducted as part of an overall revision to the City of Tybee Island Land
Development Code for consistency with the Master Plan as stated in Section 1.2 of the Plan.
Section Listing of the Proposed Changes
6‐009 (Editor’s Note). Rewriting of this section to include intent and purpose of
this Ordinance.
6‐010 (State Code Adopted). Addition of a (B) to incorporate State Code Regulations
6‐020 (Permit Required). Expansion of explanation for permitting of signs.
6‐030 (Traffic Safety). No Changes Made
6‐040 (Exempt Signs). Changes in this section are as follows:
(A): Nameplate is two square feet as reduced from four for
each business.
(B) Allows the business to have an additional sign of two
square feet for address/suite number, etc.
(C) Moved Political Signage to another section and inserted
legal notices and official instruments.
(D) Replaced with exemptions for flags
(E) Replaced with additional exemptions for flags/banners
(F) Replaced with holiday lights and decorations.
(G) Replaced to allow further exemptions for additional
building marker.
(H) Replaced to allow additional two square feet of non‐
advertising directional type of signage.
(I) Placed real estate sign section here to allow for further

6‐050 (Obsolete/Abandoned Signs). Addition of an example sentence at the end of section but

6‐060 (Unsafe Signs) Section amended to provide further detail for the
enforcement of signs deemed to be unsafe by the City and
will be subject to applicable enforcement actions after
proper notice.
6‐070 (Prohibited Signs) Removed banners from this section to provide allowances
for them in other areas around the City. Added other sign
types.
6‐080 (Design Standards) (A) New signs must be internally illuminated to protect
motorists and wildlife.
