Reiman at 6:00 P.M., Council Chambers, Memorial Municipal Building, 61 Cooke Avenue, Carteret, New Jersey. Upon Individual Roll Call Vote the Following Were Noted Present: Councilmember Vincent Bellino Jorge Diaz " Dennis DiMascio Randy Krum Susan Naples Joseph W. Sitarz Noted Absent was Kathleen M. Barney, Municipal Clerk and Robert J. Bergen, Law Director. Also noted present was Linda A. Rivera, Assistant Municipal Clerk in the absence of the Municipal Clerk and Michael Sica, Esq. in the absence of the Law Director. ,JUNE 18, 2015 RDUTAR Mmtix-g June 18, 2015 FOIL CALL The Assistant Clerk stated on January 5, 2015, the 2015 Annual SIATENIIV>' OF NsELIIVJ IMCE Notice was mailed to The Home News Tribune, The Star Ledger and posted on the Bulletin Board. it was published in the Home News Tribune on January 7, 2015 and the Star Ledger on January 8, 2015. YOUTH ACADEMY GRADUATION The Mayor asked Councilmember Bellino to bring in Detective Sergeant Novak and the Youth Police Academy. 1 JM 18, 2015 Noted Preset Noted present for the graduation were Deputy Police Chief McFadden, Lieutenant Dammann, Sergeants James Hart and Jerome Mitchell and Police Officer Keith Cassens. Retired Detective Retired Detective Sergeant Novak brought in the Youth Police Sergeant Novak Academy and then directed them along with the Mayor and Council to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. He went on to speak about the recruits, explaining how they were all graduating and this was the eighth graduating class. He said some of the prior graduates went on to Law Enforcement or to become police officers and mentioned Police Officer Cassens who was a former graduate. He explained they are not thereto make police officers but to let them see the police in a different light and said how it works is they recruit eights graders and high school students. It is for four (4) hours a day for eight (8) weeks. They have different speakers and also learn what causes a police officer's reaction in certain instances. He said all the recruits earned their place here with their dedication. Then he introduced Mayor Daniel J. Reiman who has been instrumental in the program. [mayor Rem Mayor Reiman said he and retired Sergeant Novak were talking about starting a 5K on Friday nights and might be getting some of the recruits out on Carteret Avenue. He congratulated the class and said many of the police officers present this evening donated their time to the recruits and said they have had some of the graduates of this program go on to become police officers in Carteret and other towns and after speaking to some of tonight's graduates they said they would like to pursue a career in Law Enforcement. He spoke about how the media speaks about the bad apple in the bunch but mostly there are hard working, good police officers. He said occasionally one may make the wrong decision or maybe should not be in that field of employment and they will get weeded out, but mostly they are here to protect you and your property. He then acknowledged the officers for participating in the program and said told the recruits they owed 2 JLD E 18, 2015 them a round of applause, as well as their families, for allowing %yor R einm Cont: them to participate in the program and a round of applause was given. He wished them all the best on their graduation and also congratulated the ones that may have graduated from High School or took the Civil Service Test. He said the relationships built with the classmates and the Police Department will always be there. The thanked them and turned them back over to Sergeant Novak. Sergeant Novak then asked recruit Mario Roman to speak on Sergeant Novak behalf of the graduating class. Mario Roman spoke on how they all enjoyed the class and how �xio p m much they learned working with the police. He said some of the drills, even though they were not real, were scary. Sergeant Novak said soon Mario will be pursuing a career in the United States Military and he commended him for that. Sergeant Novak gave out class awards which were voted on by the Class Aorrls instructors and the class. He said the first award, the PT Award, was given to Randy Batista, who was not present this evening. The second award was most improved and it was given to Valeria Sotomayor. He said the next award was being given to the graduate , who was voted on by the class, for who they would most likely want as their partner and it was given to Mario Roman. Sergeant Novak then introduced all present from the Police 0iaintes Department and thanked them for their help and then went on to the presentation of the Diplomas. It was duly published in the Home News Tribune June 9, 2015 with notice that it will be considered for final passage for Public Hearing too be held on June 18, 2015 at approximately 6:00 P.M. The Ordinance was posted on the Bulletin Board and copies were made available to the general public and according to law she read the Ordinance by title.
