We find the revised slopes of the ramp to be acceptable with the following conditions: 1) The building plans are revised and approved as necessary to accommodate the slab modifications. 2) The permeable pavers to be used are approved by Tybee. We are not familiar with permeable pavers being appropriate for slopes over 10 %. However, with proper securing (concrete borders, base preparation, etc.), size and increased width of openings, they could be accepted. I offer the following comments: 1) The border confining the pavers should be shown on the plan. Previous discussion indicated it would be along the existing pavement edge, and both sides. 2) Due to the steep slopes use concrete borders or provide justification of how a segmental border of brick can provide equal confinement. Also, as a standard header curb was discussed, it or other type concrete border should be specified with appropriate details shown or referenced. 3) The area of the driveway to also serve as sidewalk was discussed to be concrete with turn down edges deeper than normal. If this flatter (2% cross slope) section is to remain, concrete borders should be considered on both sides at the change from 2% to over 10 %. 4) To the best of my knowledge, all manufacturers limit their design guidelines to slopes of 7% or less. The Engineer should specify the geotechnical fabric. If the Engineer intends to specify the same fabric(s) the manufacturer allows on flatter slopes that may be all the clarification needed.
