PAGE I
2019 is here and we at the Council on Aging are all looking forward to more good times, friendship and
service in the New Year. Thank you to all of the patrons who visit the Senior Center and who ride the
F. Senior Shuttle. Thank you to the volunteers who assist us with programming and who work at the
Food Pantry, to the Board members who provide advice and guidance, and to the Friends who
contribute to our efforts. We are grateful for all of your support.
As you make your resolutions, we hope you will add visiting the Senior Center to your list. We offer exercise classes, lectures,
trips, and opportunities to gather with old and new friends for games, book club, knitting time, movies and more. If you have
questions about a senior parking permit, Medicare, income taxes, food stamps, heating assistance or need a ride to the
doctor's office or to the grocery store, we can help. We will kick-off 2019 with a morning with Town officials about taxes and
exemptions, a winter concert by the Singing Grandpops, and a special visit by Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.
As always, we welcome your suggestions for new programs and services. Here's to all that 2019 will bring!
Cheers to the New Year! C4v,,,e_"a4,-ie, ,., o*v

CASE WORKER COLUMN with
MARINA KIRSANOVA, LSW
Many of us know a
retired or still -working
older person or couple
who has an adult child
who has returned to
living in their home. Often, those
adults once again need to depend on
their parents for the basics of life:
food, clothing and shelter as well as
other benefits. There may be a
health issue, substance abuse or
other condition which impairs the
individual's ability to reliably earn a
living. Providing for an adult child
can be stressful for an elderly parent
both financially and emotionally.
If you are one of those parents and
are looking for support for your
child and/or yourself call the 617-
972-6490 for information, referral,
and counseling.
You Could Be Eligible for Fuel
Assistance through the COABHJVTY

your rent, you may also qualify.

Medicare Part S QHE
premiums in 2019 SNIDE
PROGRAM
arri'irq ohs fNaleh
The Medicare Part B
standard monthly - —
premium for 2019 is $135.50, up
$1.50 from $134 last year.
For people who get Social Security
benefits, this premium is deducted
from their benefit checks.
For 2019, there is a 2.8%
increase in Social Security benefits.
The good news is that most people
will see most of this increase in their
monthly benefit checks this year.
People with high incomes will
continue to pay more for Medicare
Part B, between $189.60 and
$460.50 per month, based on their
income level. People with limited
income and assets may qualify for a
program that will pay their
premium.
Call the Senior Center at 617-972-
6490 to set up an appointment, or if
you still need assistance in
reviewing your coverage, call 1-800-
MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227). You
can also compare plans online at
www.medicare.gov/find-a-plan.
IN CASE IT SNOWS
