HomeMy Public PortalAbout03-01-2001 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, MARCH 1, 2001 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2001, in the Community Room in the Municipal Building. Chairperson Bob Goodwin presided with Robin Henry, Bruce Metzger and Assistant City Attorney Steve Rabe present. The following business was conducted: APPROVAL OF MINUTES Metzger moved to approve minutes of February 22, 2001, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. CLAIMS FOR PAYMENT Henry presented claims submitted by the Finance Department in the amount of $287,601.25 and moved for approval, second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a voice vote. REQUESTS A. Goodwin read a letter from Jeff Glenn, Acting Grievance Chairperson, requesting a hearing for a local firefighter. The board set the date for March 8, 2001 as the last item on the agenda of the regular scheduled meeting. B. Goodwin asked Captain Don Ponder, in the absence of Chief Bill Shake to come forward. Ponder read a letter from Shake requesting the promotion of Ronald G. Pennington, Probationary Officer, to the position of 1st Class Patrol Officer for the Richmond Police Department. Metzger moved to approve, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. C. Goodwin read a request form Karen Chasteen, Director of Alumni Development, to change the date of a post-Harold Jones Concert reception to March 15, 2001 from 4 p.m. to 91p.m. They are also asking for Elm Street between Richmond Hardware and the Louis Dow Building to be blocked between those hours. Metzger moved to approve, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. BOW Minutes Cont'd March 1, 2001 Page 2 D. A letter from Chief Shake was read by Goodwin requesting approval of a computer network hub, found by the Richmond Police Department. Rabe commented that since the owners cannot be found the city should not take ownership, but could use it as a custodian. Henry moved for approval, second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a voice vote. E. Goodwin read a letter from Rose Rivera and Marsha Wheeler, requesting a noise variance for Latino Festival to be held on Friday, April 13, 2001, at the Runyan Center and the Wellness Center, Earlham College, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Metzger moved for approval, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. BID OPENING A. Stan Lambert, Director of Parks and Recreation, opened bids for the beverage contract from Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola who quoted various prices on beverages and cups. These bids will be taken under advisement and awarded at a later date. AGREEMENTS A. Goodwin explained that the City of Richmond has provided services in the past to the county for weights and measures with a verbal agreement and this year the county is asking for a written contract. Metzger moved for approval, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. • B. Fire Chief Mike Allen requested approval of a lease agreement for Fleet Capital Leasing, for a new copier. Henry moved for approval, second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a vice vote. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, on a motion duly made, seconded and passed, and carried on a voice vote, the meeting was adjourned.
