HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-14-2000 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, SEPTEMBER 14, 2000 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met at 5 p.m. Thursday, September 14, 2000, in the Community Room in the Municipal Building. Chairperson Bob Goodwin presided with Bruce Metzger, Robin Henry and City Attorney Bob Bever present. The following business was conducted: APPROVAL OF MINUTES Henry moved to approve the minutes for September 7, 2000, second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a voice vote. CLAIMS FOR PAYMENT There were no claims for payment. REQUESTS A. Lt. Paul Phillips, who stated that the Traffic Division of the Richmond Police Department recommended approval, presented a request for handicap parking by Kathy Havens at 224 North 17th Street. Metzger moved to approve the request, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. B. Goodwin presented a request for street access /curb cut for a new modular home at 812 North 20th Street. Henry moved to approve with the following conditions; the home is properly landscaped and the site is suitable for living when the project is completed, second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a voice vote. PRESENTATION A. Police Chief Bill Shake introduced the program Volunteers in Policing. He explained that at the present time they have 8 volunteers who have been trained in traffic control, media relations how to get along with people, the use of force and various other activities that would not place them in a hostile position. Four (4) of the volunteers, Diane Whitehead, Jim Winget, Dick Miller and Ron Baker, were introduced to the board. Metzger moved to approve the program, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. BOW Minutes Cont'd September 14, 2000 Page 2 BID AWARD A. Goodwin read a letter from Vicki Stevens, Purchasing Director concerning bids on salt for the highways. Being the lowest responsible bidder out of the three received, Morton Salt International of Chicago, IL at $35.60/ton, was awarded the bid on a motion by Metzger, second by Goodwin and the motion was carried on a voice vote. AGREEMENTS • A. Bever introduced the contract between the Police Department and the City of Richmond. This contract is on file in the City Clerk's Office. Metzger moved to approve, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. B. Henry introduced the contract between Amalgamated Transit Local Union No. 1474 and the City of Richmond. This contract is on file in the City Clerk's Office. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, on a motion duly made, seconded and passed, and carried on a voice vote, the meeting was adjourned.
