COUNCIL ON AGING BOARD MEETING 9 . 17 . 20
Present : Co - chairs Andrea Nevins and Sharon Tennstedt, Director Denise Rego, Laura Usher, Frank
Callahan, Steve Holmes, Lisa Donovan ( COA Programs Coordinator)
Guests : Jay Green , Penny Holeman
Absent : Marilyn Dearborn ( FOBE President ) , Honey Pivirotto ( Fin Com Liaison ), Cindy Bingham ( SB Liaison )
Meeting was called to order at 1 PM by Sharon .
Jay Green and Penny Holeman were welcomed to the Board . They were to be appointed to the Board at
the Selectmen ' s meeting on September 21 and then sworn in .
Denise gave the Director' s report . Discussed virtual appointments for open enrollment; fuel assistance
program ; staff manning the phones M - F from 9 to 3 ; outreach workers getting a lot of calls; began
medical transportation again ; starting curbside events again following COVID49 protocols ( ice cream
socials, pet grooming ) ; delivered 1, 483 meals March through August; hosted a pop - up Census 2020
event on September 3 ( Andrea suggested offering continuing help with Census through COA senior
outreach ) ; busy with medical equipment pick- ups and deliveries .
Lisa discussed upcoming programming . Dave Karras, Certified Aging in Place and Home Modification
specialist; Healthy Eating; Preparedness with Ed Blanchard ( Disaster Specialist at Red Cross) ; Home Care
Services with Kim Collins; Alzheimer' s Caregiving; Selling Items on e- bay and Craig' s List; " Fall In For A
Treat" curbside event on October 14; Funky Fitness with Frank .
No upcoming programs on Safe Driving yet .
Discussed Drummer Boy Park project . Andrea suggested marking trail with interval marks . Susan
Broderick said the town is looking at the master plan to review Drummer Boy Park and will work with
COA .
We discussed the AARP Grant which is due in April 2021 . Peter said an ad hoc committee ,is being
assembled and a charge proposed for the committee; hope to make appointments to committee by end
of October and be ready to get going in November; he referred to the fact that there are a lot of
stakeholders in the Drummer Boy Master Plan ; site work will begin next week ( week of September 21 )
for access path and completed by November; there is a CZM design and grant to build an elevated
boardwalk/ bridge to Wing Island ; waiting for Phase 4 of the State' s reopening plan to promote
gathering .

Pet Grooming went well . The truck was parked in the lot away from other cars and COA personnel

directed customers to specific spaces to await their turn at Pet Grooming .
Popup 2020 Census Event was marred by weather . Three people attended .

PROGRAM REPORTS :
Filming of Home Modification Program by Dave Karas has been scheduled for October 16tH
Notification will be in Bayside Chatter, Ferretti ' s and the Cape Codder . Lisa is working on getting
additional programs filmed .
Lisa responded to a question on the use of Drummer Boy Park for certain activities by saying that
the state has not allowed groups to participate in public places yet .
ACTION PLAN IMPLEMENTATION FY21
Sharon presented a modified Action Plan which she stressed was dynamic and will change as the
COVID 19 situation changes .
The question of Drummer Boy Park usage was addressed by Peter Lombardi . In that The Board
of Selectman will set up a committee to determine usage and programs for the park . He stated
that the COA should put its' plans together and it will be added in for Grant Funding .
There is a plan for and elevated walkway for Drummer Boy Park to Wing Island to the Natural
History Museum .
