COUNCIL ON AGING ADVISORY BOARD
Meeting Minutes — October 15, 2020
Present : Denise Rego, Sharon Tennstedt, Andrea Nevins- Fernandez, Honey Pivirotto, Frank Callahan, Jay
Green , Penny Holeman , Laura Usher, Lisa Donavan
Absent : Steve Holmes, Cindy Bingham , Susan Broderick, Marilyn Dearborn
Co - Chair Andrea Nevins- Fernandez called the meeting to order at 1 PM . The approval of the previous
meeting' s minutes was postponed because they were incomplete . Denise gave the Director' s Report :
The building is still closed , but one or two employees are manning the office , taking care of essential
services/ needs (food , prescriptions, transportation, etc . ) ,
Open enrollment appointments began and appointments filling up quickly;
Assisted Health Department signing up seniors for Annual Flu Clinic on October 22 ( Andrea asked if they
are giving the high -dose flu vaccine to seniors, and Denise said they are not ) ;
Because we were unable to celebrate at the annual volunteer luncheon, Marilyn and Denise went to
Pete Schaffer' s home to present him with the "2019 Volunteer of the Year" award ;
Brewster COA is working with other local COA' s to put programs on TV;
Denise gave updates on Brewster' s Covid49 Relief Fund, Elder Affairs' grants, Brewster Woods project .
Sharon discussed COA programming ( our own and in partnership with other COA' s ) . Taping of programs
will be done at NRHS . Hope to expand programming in the future . Talked about " Housing For A
Lifetime" series and the possibility of sharing with other COAs .
Lisa gave an update on current and newly-added programs . Andrea suggested we include an article on
Hypothermia in the next newsletter— also talked about how seniors manage in a power outage and
storm preparation . Reviewed action plan going forward and 2020 holiday events ( non - events ) . Denise
said there will be no turkey deliveries this year, although they are working on curbside turkey dinners
being made available . There will be no concerts or Santa visits this year . Denise said many of the town
departments are in discussion about having a drive -through event at Stony Brook parking lot on
December 19 . Tickets will be sold to the event . Sharon said " Brewster For The Holidays" will be held first
weekend in December ( a Chamber event ) .
Sharon reviewed the Action Plan and asked Lisa to provide attendance numbers for events ( Lisa will
follow up on this ) . Discussed adding and removing programs; Lisa pointed out importance of not
overloading the schedule with programs . Discussed upcoming Election Day plans , Denise said we were
not allowed to provide transportation to the polls for voting .
There was no new business . The next meeting will be held on November 19 , 2020 . Sharon adjourned the
meeting at 1 : 53 PM ; Penny seconded the motion to adjourn .
