HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-18-1999 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND,INDIANA, NOVEMBER 18,1999 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond,Indiana,met at 5 p.m.Thursday, November 18, 1999,in the Community Room in the Municipal Building. Chairperson Bob Goodwin presided,with Robin Henry,Bruce Metzger and Assistant City Attorney Steve Rabe in attendance.The following business was conducted: APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES The minutes of the meeting of November 10, 1999 were approved on a motion made by Metzger,second by Henry and the motion was carried on a unanimous voice vote. CLAIMS FOR PAYMENT Claims for payment were$370,886.67 and were read by Henry who moved to approve,second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a unanimous voice vote. REQUESTS A. Fire Chief Mike Allen requested the Board's approval of the hiring of Firefighter Benjamin Paul Moore effective November 22, 1999.Metzger moved to approve,second by Henry and the motion was carried on a unanimous voice vote. B. Chairperson Goodwin brought before the Board a request by Indiana Gas to place a meter on the North 1 1th Street side of the building at 1036 East Main Street and in the public right of way.Henry moved to approve,second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a unanimous voice vote. BID AWARD A. Chairperson Goodwin stated that three bids had been received for the City's highway salt contract.They were from Cargill Inc.for$37 per ton;Hoosier Salt for$58.73 per ton;and Morton International Salt for$34.26 per ton.He read a letter from Vicki Stevens,Purchasing Manager,who stated that she and Street Division Manager Bill Smith had reviewed the bids and it was their recommendation that the contract be awarded to Morton International as the lowest,most responsive and responsible bidder.Henry moved to approve,second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a unanimous voice vote. BID OPENING B. Bids received for the towing rotation for the City were from H&H Wrecker,Christopher Auto Repair,Steele's Wrecker,Stamper's Inc.,and Pardo Service. Chairperson Goodwin said these would be taken under advisement and awarded at a later date. AGREEMENT A. The signing of the agreement with Rural Metro for mutual aid with the Richmond Fire Department was postponed until a later date.
