HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-10-1999 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND,INDIANA, NOVEMBER 10,1999 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond,Indiana,met at 5 p.m.Wednesday, November 10, 1999,in the Community Room in the Municipal Building. Chairperson Bob Goodwin presided,with Robin Henry,Bruce Metzger and Assistant City Attorney Steve Rabe in attendance.The following business was conducted: APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES The minutes of the meeting of October 28, 1999 were approved on a motion made by Metzger,second by Chairperson Goodwin and the motion was carried on a unanimous voice vote. CLAIMS FOR PAYMENT Claims for payment were$370,698.35 and were read by Henry who moved to approve,second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a unanimous voice vote. REQUESTS A. Captain Melody Truitt brought before the Board a request made by the United Methodist Church at 2900 West Main Street for the live nativity scene from 6 to 8:30 p.m.December 11 and 12 and for barricades and street cones for the extra traffic.Henry moved to approve, second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a unanimous voice vote. B. A recommendation was also made by Captain Truitt for the approval of the annual Christmas Parade route scheduled for 11 a.m.Saturday,November 27. She said it would begin at 15th and East Main Streets and end at 5th and Main.She said the Police Department would provide seven uniformed officers to provide traffic control for the parade participants. C. Captain Truitt brought before the Board a request by Main Street Richmond to block three parking spaces in the 800 block of East Main Street to provide carriage rides for the uptown customers.She said the spaces are the first three parallel parking spaces from 9th Street going west on the north side of Main and are needed on three Saturdays which include November 27,December 11 and December 18, 1999.She recommended approval and Metzger so moved,second by Henry and the motion was carried on a unanimous voice vote. D. Chairperson Goodwin said a request had been made for a curb/access permit for a residential garage at 1809 North West A Street and had been checked by each of the departments with no • objections.Metzger moved to approve subject to the conditions suggested by the Engineering Department,second by Henry and the motion was carried on a unanimous voice vote. BID OPENING A. Bids received for the renovation of the lobby in the Police Department were opened with Henry reading the bid made by Russell&Geier Contracting for$5,328.Metzger read the bid by Paul Bisker Contractors Inc.for$10,752,and Chairperson Goodwin read the bid by Kutter Construction for$5,400.He announced that all the bids would be taken under advisement and awarded at a later date. B. Two bids were received for the Police Department carpet.Henry read the bid made by Georgia Direct which she said was for the different rooms on an attached sheet.Metzger read the bid made by Newport Carpet for$3,264.80.Chairperson Goodwin said that those bids would also be taken under advisement and awarded at a later date. Chairperson Goodwin read the one bid received for the street extension on North West 0 Street made by Milestone Contractors for $34,138.70.He gave the bid to City Engineer Bob Wiwi for review,stating that it could possibly be acted upon before the end of the meeting. BID AWARD A. Chairperson Goodwin read a letter from Greg Stiens,assistant City Engineer,regarding the awarding of the bid for the Concession Stand at McBride Stadium and recommended Kutter Contruction Conpany Inc. as being the lowest responsive bidder.He said that he and City Engineer Bob Wiwi both recommended the contract to awarded to Kutter in the amount of $182,466,adding that all or part of the alternate bid No. 1 may be added to the contract at a later date.Henry so moved,second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a unanimous voice vote. B. Chairperson Goodwin recognized Wiwi again who said he had reviewed the bid by Milestone Contractors and found it to be complete.He recommended approval.Metzger so moved, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a unanimous voice.vote. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business,on a motion duly made,seconded and passed,and carried on a unanimous voice vote,the meeting was adjourned.
