Hause, Acting City Manager I Administrative Services Director Via: Brian Haworth, Assistant to the City Manager I Economic Deve lopment Manager By: Chelsea Pitcher, Management Analyst SUBJECT: PUBLIC ARTS COMMISSION ACTIONS -MEETING OF FEBRUARY 5, 2014 RECOMMENDATION: The City Council is requested to receive and file actions of the February 5, 2014 Public Arts Commission (Commission) meeting. BACKGROUND: On February 5, 2014 the Commission reviewed slight alterations to four design sketches for tile murals to be installed on Rosemead Boulevard directory monuments. Final design sketches will be completed in watercolor and presented to the City Council for f inal approval on March 18, 2014. ANALYSIS: The following is a summary of actions taken at the February 5, 2014 Commission meet ing: 1. ROLL CALL: Present: Absent: Excused: Commissioner-Hepler, Vice-Chair Ho, Keelin, Kim, Rachford, Zhao Commissioner-None Commissioner-Chair Larsen City Council February 18, 2014 Page 2 of 3 2. CONSENT CALENDAR The Commission approved the minutes from their special meeting of January 22, 2014. 3. UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. CAMELLIA FESTIVAL OUTREACH STRATEGY UPDATE The Commission confirmed final details for an activity to promote the Arts in Public Places Program at the Camellia Festival on February 23, from 3-5 p.m. 4. NEW BUSINESS A. APPROVAL OF DESIGN SKETCHES FOR ROSEMEAD PROJECT TILE MURALS The Commission was requested to approve slight alterations to design sketches entitled "Festivities," "A District of Distinguished Schools," "Embracing the Nature," and "The Bandstand." Vice-Chair Ho motioned to approve the design sketches with the following corrections: Alteration of the camellia bud in "Festivities" to distinguish it from a rose bud; and higher placement of the soccer ball in "A District of Distinguished Schools" to establish a wider margin of space between the bottom of the frame and the soccer ball. The Commission approved design sketches with slight alterations 6-0. 5. REPORTS FROM CITY STAFF Assistant to the City Manager Haworth informed the Commission that the Public Arts Annual Plan implementation schedule would be delayed due to the absence of a City Manager to drive public art policy discussions. Annual Plan implementation will commence when a new City Manager is seated and can provide policy direction. 6. COMMUNICATIONS Vice-Chair Ho announced the Commission's next regular meeting on Wednesday, March 5, 2014. 7. COMMISSION ITEMS SEPARATE FROM THE AGENDA City Council February 18, 2014 Page 3 of 3 A.
