Mayor Sternquist called the Special Meeting to order at 7:05 a.m.

PRESENT: Councilmember-Chavez, Vizcarra (arrived at 7:11 a.m.), Blum,
Sternquist
ABSENT: Councilmember-Yu
ALSO PRESENT: Acting City Manager/Administrative Service Director Hause,
City Clerk Kuo, Public Safety and Services Manager
Sahagun and Public Safety Supervisor Ariizumi

4. NEW BUSINESS
A. LAW ENFORCEMENT UPDATE
Representatives of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reviewed
the crime statistics for the month of January and Sheriff's activities for the
month of February, 2014.
Councilmember Vizcarra left the meeting at 7:50 a.m. and returned at 7:52
a.m.
Public Services and Safety Manager Sahagun and representatives of the
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department answered Council questions
regarding the crime statistics and Sheriff's activities.
Councilmember Chavez left the meeting at 7:51 a.m.
Councilmember Vizcarra left the meeting at 8:00 a.m.
Meeting lost quorum at 8:00a.m.
Mayor Sternquist directed staff to work with Council for input on discussion
items for future monthly Law Enforcement Update meetings.
Mayor Pro Tem Blum also asked staff and Sheriff to provide more
descriptive details regarding the statistics occurring in the City rather than
numbers.
Mayor Sternquist and Mayor ProTem Blum also directed staff to address
the following before the next monthly law enforcement update meeting on
March 26:
1. Provide City Council the proposed new "Crime Statistic" reporting
format by Monday, March 3;
2. Present to City Council, at the April 1 Regular City Council Meeting:
a) renewal of Los Angeles County Sheriffs service contract. One of
the provisions in the agreement for Council's consideration will be the
rebranding of the Sheriff's vehicle with the City's new logo; b)
recommendation regarding the continuation of a Sheriff monthly
report during a regular City Council meeting; and
3. Report to City Council, within a week after a Neighborhood Watch
meeting, the number of contacts and type of concerns the Sheriffs
receive from residents.
Mayor Sternquist directed staff to work with Council for input on items
for discussion for future monthly Law Enforcement Update meetings.
Mayor Pro Tem Blum also asked staff and Sheriff to provide more
descriptive details regarding the statistics occurring in the City rather
than just numbers.
5. ADJOURNMENT
The Special Meeting was adjourned at 8:22 a.m.
