HomeMy Public PortalAbout1987-03-09 Special Town Mtg Warrant s n, 44 OVERVIEW TO ARTICLES 1 - 4 t x i The Land Acquisition proposals embodied in Articles 1 , 2 , } 3 and 4 , represent the results of a two-year planning effort by the Land Acquisition Committee to protect watershed , environ- mental. , recreational and other public values in the large undeveloped tract of land known as the "Pwkhorn" in Brewster ' s southwest "RR" Zoning District . This effort was mandated in a Moratorium By- law on further development enacted at Town Meeting in May of 1985 , which declared this district a "highly sensitive area which shall be the subject of study and research by the Town . " ( The Moratori - tun will expire on June 30 , 1987 . ) Since that time , the Land Acquisition with its staff- and professional consultants have researched mapped and interpreted the water resources , extensive wetland systems , soil characteristics , wildlife communities , endangered species habitat , archeological and historic components and recreational potential for this unique area . It has identified some 800 acres within the district whose environmental significance and. value for public use and benefit merit acquisition by the Town . Some 180 acres have already beer. acquired to date , and another 590 are recommended for acquisition in Articles 1 - 4 . Favorable action on these articles T07111 result in the preservation of a diverse ecological system with a multitude of ecological and human values being preserved for our and future generations . The L . A . C . believes this to be a rare opportunity i that if not acted upon now , will soon be lost . _i Articles 1 - 4 are explained in detail. on the following pages . NOTE : V .
