HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-04-1995 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, MAY 4, 1995 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met at 9 a.m.Thursday, May 4, 1995, in 2 the Municipal Building in said City. Chairperson Dennis W. Grimes presided with Earnest Jarvis and Janet 3 Hibner in attendance.The following business was had to-wit: 4 5 APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF APRIL 27,1995 6 7 The minutes of the previous meeting were not available for approval. 8 9 CLAIMS FOR PAYMENT 10 11 Claims for payment submitted by the City Controller's office totaled $1,717,933.16 which included a payment of 12 $1.5 million from the Richmond Sanitary District to the City as a temporary loan to satisfy a cash flow deficiency 13 to be repaid in June. Also, $85,000 for health insurance claims. Additionally, $278,678.44 for various supplies 14 and contractual services which also included a payment of $120,450.99 for taxes on city-owned property for 15 taxes. Chairperson Grimes moved to approve the claims, second by Jarvis and the motion was carried on a 16 unanimous voice vote. 17 18 REQUESTS 19 20 A. A request for a new handicapped parking space made by Leona Jenkins on Crosshall Street was 21 read by Hibner who moved to approve, second by Jarvis and the motion was carried on a unanimous 22 voice vote. 23 24 B. Jarvis read a request from the Traffic Safety Division to paint the southeast curb yellow at the 25 intersection of North 15th and E Street, extending 20 feet to the east from the corner.Jarvis so moved, 26 second by Hibner and the motion was carried on a unanimous voice vote. 27 28 C. Hibner read a request from Townsend Community Center directed to Fire Chief James Sticco to 29 have the Fire Department provide water for sprinkler fun on a one time basis during the period of June 30 31 12 through August 4. Chief Sticco commented that the procedure is one which is repeatedly done and he recommend the Board's approval. Hibner so moved, second by Jarvis and the motion was carried 32 on a unanimous voice vote. 33 34 CONTRACTS 35 36 A.Award bids. 37 38 1.There were none. 39 40 B. Open bids. 41 42 1. One bid was received for the base widening of Flatley Road. Chairperson Grimes moved to close 43 the bidding which he noted had been legally advertised in the Palladium-Item April 14 and April 21, 44 second by Hibner and the motion was carried on a unanimous voice vote. Chairperson Grimes also 45 moved to accept the proof of publication,second by Hibner and the motion was carried on a unanimous 46 voice vote. Opening the bid, Hibner noted that it was from Milestone Contractors. Jarvis read the bid 47 which was for $72,646.70. Chairperson Grimes moved that it be taken under advisement, second by 48 Hibner and the motion was carried on a unanimous voice vote. 49 50 OTHER MATTERS 51 52 A.Jarvis read a request for a curb cut made by Transilwrap Manufacturing to be made at the back of its 53 property off to the west side, running south and tieing into South D Street.Jarvis moved to approve the 54 request,second by Hibner and the motion was carried on a unanimous voice vote. 55 56 B. Jarvis thanked all those who participated in WalkAmerica, the March of Dimes fundraiser held 57 Saturday,April 29, noting that it was highly successful and exceeded the total raised last year. 58 59 ADJOURNMENT 60 61 There being no further business, on a motion duly made seconded and passed and carried on a unanimous 62 voice vote,the meeting was adjourned. 63 64 65 Dennis W.Grimes, Chairperson ATTEST: Norma Carnes, City Clerk
