HomeMy Public PortalAboutRES-CC-2002-29Resolution 29-2002 A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE CITY OF MOAB PERSONNEL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES MANUAL TO ALLOW FOR SCHOOL ASSISTANCE LEAVE Whereas, the City of Moab recognizes and promotes the importance of education in our community and has identified education as a top pnonty for our community, and Whereas, the City of Moab, the Grand County School System, Parents for Public Schools and other groups support broad -based collaboration among the schools, citizens, parents, businesses, government agencies and other organizations to create a climate of excellence in our schools, and Whereas, one-on-one interaction with students and individual community members is a proven method of creating student success, particularly with reading at the elementary school level, and Whereas, allowmg limited leave time for City employees to assist school children is a way to promote educational excellence through individual student success and to create a strong collaboration between the City and the schools Now therefore, we, the governing body of the City of Moab do hereby amend the City of Moab personnel policies and procedures manual to allow for school assistance leave as follows Section 5 5 shall be amended to read as follows 5 5 Employees may, upon wntten approval of the supervisor, take up to one hour per week paid School Assistance Leave to assist children in Red Rock Elementary School's reading proficiency program Request for said leave shall be in writing and shall be available to full-time non -probationary employees in good standing Employee performance and productivity, as well as scheduling and workload issues may be considered in granting or denying the request Existing Sections 5 5 through 5 12 shall be renumbered consecutively following the new Section 55 This resolution shall take effect immediately upon passage Passed and adopted by action of the governing body of the City of Moab in open session this 8'" day of October, 2002 By David L Saknson Mayor tte Rachel Ellison City Recorder Resolution#29-2002 Page l of 1
