Discuss, Review and/or Adopt Mosquito Policy
Mr. McAuliffe presented the policy to “Mitigate the Risk from Mosquito-Borne Illness” for the Board’s
review.
He stated that when the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) elevates the Eastern Equine
Encephalitis (EEE), West Nile Virus (WNV) or other mosquito-borne illness risk rating to high or critical
and recommends the avoidance of outdoor activity to avoid peak mosquito hours (dusk to dawn) the
department will enact this policy. The dates and times of the schedule will be dictated by the MDPH
which will be posted on the Town’s Web Site and sent through social media.
He further added, that this policy consistent with M.G.L. c.111, s.31.2, will enforce Local Public Health
Regulations, the State Sanitary Code (Chapter 1, 105 CMR 400.200(b); M.G.L. c.111, S.127A and the State
Environmental Code (Title 1, 310 CMR 11.05(1) which authorizes the local Boards of Health the ability to
issue an emergency notice requiring action(s) to be taken as the Board deems necessary to meet the
emergency (policy attached).
Vice Chairman King motioned to adopt the Policy, as presented. Dr. Jacobs seconded. Vice Chairman King
and Dr. Jacobs in favor.
ADJOURN: Dr. Jacobs motioned to adjourn the Board of Health Meeting at 6:10 p.m. Vice Chairman King
