HomeMy Public PortalAboutRES-CC-2003-25CITY OF MOAB RESOLUTION #25-2003 1 RESOLUTION OF COMMITMENT TO HAZARD MITIGATION PLANNING FOR THE PURPOSE OF REDUCING FUTURE DISASTER LOSSES IN THE CITY OF MOAB, UTAH WHEREAS, various natural hazards have the potential for causing harm and loss of life and/or property to the citizens of the City of Moab and will continue to do so, and WHEREAS, the implementation of hazard mitigation policies and strategies can protect the citizens and significantly reduce the loss of life and property from natural hazards, and WHEREAS, a concerted effort should be made by the City of Moab to address hazard mitigation in its respective policies and programs, and WHEREAS, hazard mitigation goals and objectives can be effectively developed through participation m the development of a regional natural hazard mitigation plan, NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Moab does hereby resolve to participate in and contribute to the development of a Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan, and to publicly review, revise, and adopt said plan The City of Moab appoints Teresa Minear, Zoning Admimstrator, to be its authonzed and pnmary representative to the Regional Planning Team, with the responsibility of representing the concerns of our county, municipalities, and pnvate entities Such concems will be identified through coordination with these entities 2 We understand that this planning effort will a Identify the natural hazards and analyze the risks that affect our community b Assess our vulnerability to these hazards Review and evaluate the effectiveness of our current local hazard mitigation programs and policies to the natural hazards d Develop an integrated regional Hazard Mitigation Strategy, with goals and objectives for implementing the strategy e Be submitted to all affected local governments, the State of Utah and the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) for approval, and that such approval is a condition of future Federal Disaster Mitigation Assistance f Require our best efforts to implement, evaluate and update the Hazard Mitigation Strategy as required, but not less than every five ycars PASSED AND APPROVED by a duly constituted quorum of the Moab City Council this 28's day of November, 2003 IN WITNESS THEREOF Mayor ATTEST City Recorder Resohnion # 25-2903 1
