HomeMy Public PortalAbout2019-06-20 Jocelyn Tager PROCLAMATION WHEREAS: Solar energy installations are a powerful tool for limiting greenhouse gas emissions and counteracting global climate change; and WHEREAS: Jocelyn Tager, known to all as “Jolly,” has been a tireless advocate for increasing solar panels in Watertown through the state’s Neighborhood Solar program; and WHEREAS: In 2017, when town regulations required that new developments assess their projects for solar-readiness, Jolly Tager raised what seemed like a farfetched idea of requiring that solar arrays actually be required when feasible; and WHEREAS: From that moment Jolly never wavered in her determination to educate the Town Council on the need and value of requiring solar installations and to work with Town staff and the Town Attorney to craft language for an ordinance; and WHEREAS: Her efforts paid off with a unanimous vote at the November 27, 2018 Town Council meeting, making Watertown the first community in Massachusetts to require solar installations on commercial or industrial projects of 10,000 square foot or more and on residential developments of 10 units or more; and WHEREAS: Publicity in major media outlets has inspired other communities throughout the state, and state lawmakers, to consider similar proposals; and WHEREAS: Ms Tager is being honored on June 20 at the Solar Energy Business Association of New England’s Summer Solstice Celebration for her tireless advocacy on behalf of solar energy as a way to limit greenhouse gas emissions and thus moderate climate change; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that the City known as the Town of Watertown extends our congratulations to Ms. Tager on receiving this honor and offers our gratitude for all that she has accomplished on behalf of increasing solar energy use in Watertown and throughout the Commonwealth.
