HomeMy Public PortalAbout07-25-1985 /61 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICBND, INDIANA JULY 25, 1985 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular 2 session July 25, 1985 at the hour of 9:00 A.M. in the Municipal Building in said -- 3 City. Mr. Brown presided with Ms. Silberstein in attendance: Ms. Maness was 4 absent. The following business was had to wit: 5 6 9:00 A.M. INOPERABLE VEHIrr.F, HEARINGS 7 8 Carl Reis Verne Schwab 9 1002 Boyer Street 1006 Boyer Street 10 11 Mr. Brown opened the inoperable vehicle hearings and the Clerk administered the 12 Oath to give testimony to Mr. Dennis Bronston, Code Enforcement Officer for the 13 Planning Department. Mr. Bronston informed the Board that all nuisances have 14 been removed and he would recommend that the Board withdraw the complaints. 15 . 16 Ms. Silberstein asked if these were repeat offenders and Mr. Bronston said this 17 is a first time offense in both cases. 18 19 Ms. Silberstein moved to dismiss the canplaints against Carl Reis and Verne 20 Schwab, seconded by Mr. Brown and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 21 22 APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF JULY 18, 1985 23 24 Ms. .Silberstein moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as prepared, 25 seconded by Mr. Brown and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 26 27 APPROVAL OF CLAIMS FOR PAYMENT III 28 29 Ms. Silberstein moved to approve claims for payment in the amount of 62,983.28, seconded 30 by Mr. Brown and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 31 32 DEPARTMENT REQUESTS AND OOMMENTS 33 34 Planning Department 35 36 Curb Cut Request-1316 N.W. 5th Street 37 38 Mr. Bronston stated this request was for a new office building at the intersection 39 of N.W. 5th and M Streets. He said that the City Engineer has approved the 40 request and the Traffic Division has looked at the request and has same reservations 41 with the additional traffic pulling onto N.W. 5th Street by way of additional curb 42 cut. Officer Jenkins stated it would be ideal to make the access off M Street and 43 not make an additional curb cut onto N.W. 5th Street. 44 45 Mr. Bronston stated that currently there are plans for three (3) spaces in the 46 building with parking in the rear and a curb cut onto N.W. M Street also. 47 He said the owner feels it. is necessary for the N.W. 5th Street curb cut to draw 48 from the amount of traffic on N.W. 5th Street. Mr. Bronston also stated that 49 parking lots and drives will be asphalted within twelve (12) months. 50 51 Mr. Bronston will provide the owners name to the Clerk since it did not copy well 52 on the request. He said they have been issued building permits, state approval has 53 been received and a local contractor has been hired for the job. 54 55 Ms. Silberstein stated since there was no master plan regarding N.W. 5th Street to 56 limit curb cuts, even though it may not be as desirable as having all access off M 57 Street, she could not justify denying the request. 58 59 Ms. Silberstein moved to approve the curb cut request at 1316 N.W. 5th Street for 60 both the cut on N.W. 5th and N.W. M Street, seconded by Mr. Brown and on unanimous 61 voice vote the motion was carried. 62 63 PUBLIC REQUESTS AND COMMENTS 64 65 Request of Jaycees for CF Roadblock Board of Works Minutes Cont'd July 25, 1985 Page 2 1 Mr. Mike Gibbs, Community Development Vice President of the Richmond Jaycees requested 2 permission from the Board to set up roadblocks for fundraising purposes at the 3 intersections of U.S. 40 and South 18th Street and U.S. 40 and Woodside Drive on 4 August 10, 1985 from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. The fundraising is for Cystic 5 Fibrosis.
