HomeMy Public PortalAbout12-08-1983 .27 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, DECEMBER 8, 1983 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met 2 in regular session December 8, 1983 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal 3 Building in said City. Mr. Meredith presided with Mr. Cordell and Mr. Webb 4 present. The following business was had, to-wits 5 6 APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF DECEMBER 1, 1983 8 Mr. Cordell moved to approve the minutes of December 1 , 1983 as prepared, 9 seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 10 11 REQUEST FOR MEMORIAL - Mrs. Celleghin 12 13 Mrs. Jean Celleghin, 3217 N. W. "B" Street, requested permission to place a 14 plaque at the City Building dedicating the rose gardens to her husband, Denis, 15 who passed away a year ago. Mr. Celleghin was president of Hill Floral Products 16 and was instrumental in presenting and maintaining the rose gardens.. 17 18 Mr. Meredith noted the gardens were established during this administration and 19 would not have been possible had it not been for Mr. Celleghin and his generosity 20 in providing the city with the roses, planning and design. 21 22 Mr. Cordell moved that the request for a memorial for Denis Celleghin beap- 23 proved to be placed on the grounds of the City Building, Richmond, Indiana, 24 seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 25 26 ROSE FESTIVAL PARADE REQUEST - Loren Vance 27 28 Mr. Loren Vance presented the route for the 1984 Rose Festival Parade and re- 29 quested approval. The route is the same as last year. Traffic Capt. Dan 30 Wogoman stated the route if O.K. with him. 31 32 Mr. Cordell moved that the Rose Festival Parade of 1984 be approved as scheduled 33 'to start at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 1984. It will begin at. 22nd & Main 34 Streets at the Glen Miller Park entrance and travel west on Main Street to 35 North 16th and Main; north on 16th Street to North 16th & "A" Streets. The 36 parade will turn left and continue to North 10th and "A" Streets and will dis 37 perse at this point. The parade route streets will be closed 1/2 hour before 38 the parade and North 22nd from Main to "B" will be closed at 5 :00 a.m. , seconded 39 by Mr. Webb. 40 41 The Clerk asked if they should furnish proof of insurance and City Attorney Ed 42 Anderson stated this is needed for the entire activities of the Rose Festival 43 Committee. Mr. Vance stated this will be done on or before the first of June,1984. 44 45 Capt. Wogoman requested leaving the closing of the streets of the main parade 46 route at the discretion of the Traffic Department. 47 48 On unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 49 50 Mr. Cordell moved the Rose Festival, for their activities of 1984, have proof of 51 insurance and responsibility for this period of time, seconded by Mr. Webb and 52 on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 53 54 REQUEST FOR INSTALLATION OF FIRE HYDRANT - Chief Paul Mullin 55 Y 56 Fire Chief Paul Mullin recommended installation of a fire hydrant at the south- 57 west, corner of Barrington Ridge and Breckenridge Drive in the Woodgate sub-division. 58 59 Mr. Webb moved that the subject request be approved, seconded by Mr. Cordell and 60 on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 61 62 USE OF FIRE TRUCKS FOR SALVATION ARMY SOLICITATION - Chief Mullin 63 64 Mr. Cordell stated he was refraining from voting on this request because he is 65 on the Board of the Salvation Army. 29 Board of Works Minutes Cont'd. December 8, 1983 Page 2 1 Fire Chief Paul Mullin requested approval to use the fire trucks to assist the 2 Salvation Army with their Christmas collections. The dates are December 22, 23 3 and 24. The Fire Department has assisted the previous four (4) years at 8th & 4 Main. The trucks and men are in-service. This is done during the hours the 5 downtown stores are open. 6 7 Mr. Webb moved that the subject request be approved, seconded by Mr. Meredith. 8 The motion carried with Mr. Cordell abstaining. 9 10 RECEIVE BIDS FOR ABANDONED VEHICLES 11 12 City Attorney Ed Anderson examined proof of publication and found it to be in 13 order. Mr. Cordell moved it be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Mr. 14 Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 15 16 The following bids were received and recorded: S&S Towing & Recovery, Inc. $2,395; 17 "J" Street Auto Parts, Inc. $6,430. 18 19 Mr. Cordell moved the bids be taken under advisement for study, seconded by Mr. 20 Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 21 22 RECEIVE BIDS FOR STREET DEPARTMENT MATERIALS, GASOLINE AND DIESEL FUEL 23 24 City Attorney Ed Anderson examined proof of publication and found it to be in 25 order.
